General Definition Of Work

Performs intermediate paraprofessional work presenting nature programs to citizens and visitors of all ages.

Work is performed under general supervision of the Manager, Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Essential Functions

Conducts nature programs emphasizing environmental concepts pertaining to the natural history;

Answer visitor's questions regarding exhibits, programs & natural history of the Environmental Complex.

Preparation of facilities and equipment for programs, including cleaning and storage.

Related Tasks

Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

General knowledge of local flora and fauna,, particularly the dune, hammock and mangrove communities. Ability to change the scope of instruction to be meaningful for any age group with no notice; ability to operate video and audio equipment; general knowledge in conducting programs relating to the environment; ability to operate a computer. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, program participants of all ages, and the general public.

Education And Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, plus course work in the biology or conservation.

Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license, before date of hire.
