Fly-in Sites (nursing station sites) Independent Contractor CLOSING DATE: Until Filled

Hourly Range: Step 1 - 6 $92.70 - $113.47

Full-time Salary Range: $192,816 - $236,018 in addition to on-call stipend, Per Diem and Additional Hours

Education

  • Graduate of a PA degree program from an accredited institution
  • Canadian Certified Physician Assistant registration required
  • Maintains Maintenance of Certification (MOC) with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada or Equivalent

CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – must be complete before commencement of clinical duties
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) (within a year from hire), or ITLS/BTLS would be considered
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (within a year of hire)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) (within a year of hire)
  • Indigenous cultural awareness course (within a year of hire)
  • Manitoba Opioid Antagonist Therapy (OAT) course or equivalent is encouraged
  • Point of Care Ultrasound is encouraged

EXPERIENCE:

  • One to two years clinical experience, preferably in a Northern clinic or related health care setting is required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs patient health assessments and health maintenance activities
  • Obtains medical histories and performs physical examinations
  • Participates in a PA-led, MD-supervised mentorship integration program
  • Manages chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Orders appropriate diagnostic investigations, interprets reports of investigations, analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment
  • Participates in interdisciplinary staff and nursing education through CME activities, mentoring, role modeling and

facilitating the exchange of knowledge in the clinical setting

  • Develops health care programs to enhance patient care services (e.g. chronic disease clinics)

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • English proficiency requirement in accordance with the University of Manitoba academic policy

  • Strong health assessment and clinical skills are required
  • Excellent leadership, critical thinking and collaborative interpersonal skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently, working as a member of a health care team alongside family
medicine MDs, extended practice nurses, paramedics and other allied professionals

  • Must demonstrate an appreciation of Indigenous worldviews, cultures and be sensitive in providing anti-racist, trauma- informed care.
  • Must be able to prioritize, manage time effectively and be flexible.
  • Must possess a dependable, consistent and reliable work record, including attendance at work.
  • After period of mentorship and training, be able to work safely and competently without a physician in community with remote supervision
