Navigator teachers are dedicated, passionate professionals who are driven to impact the lives of traditionally underserved students. Teachers are coached weekly to constantly improve their practice, use technology on a daily basis in Navigator’s cutting edge blended educational program, build and promote critical thinking skills, and maintain strong relationships with students in order to deliver an exceptional educational experience. The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for working with teachers and students to help facilitate learning in the area of Physical Education and also in the core curricular areas (ELA and Math). The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with peers, teachers, and students, have a deep commitment to student achievement, have a passion for Physical Education and healthy living, hold students and self to high expectations, and uphold Navigator school culture at all times.
Responsibilities
Lead classes and groups of students in Physical Education lessons and activities
Plan and implement lessons that adhere to state standards and Navigator scope and sequence
Administer the state required California Physical Fitness Test to 5th grade students
Under the supervision of the teacher, lead small group intervention for targeted students
Curriculum development and implementation in alignment with Common Core standards
Fully participate in and contribute to data meetings, release days, and professional development sessions
Invest in personal professional development by fully participating in weekly coaching and feedback sessions
Become an expert in subject matter focus
Student SupervisionPerform supervisory duties while students are in class and at play
Provide assistance in any lunch administration activities such as escorting students to lunch and to the play area, administering lunches, assist in cleaning of lunch areas
Student SupportUnder the supervision of an administrator or teacher, assist special needs students in areas of educational concern
Assist students with special needs as prescribed (proper training will be provided and may include assisting students with personal hygiene, restroom assistance, administering medications, providing behavioral modification techniques)
School CultureManage student behavior according to common Navigator practices
Collaborate with subject matter counterparts to increase eƦectiveness of teaching methods and instructional delivery
Maintain high expectations for self and students at all times; commit to 100% student engagement
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and valid California Teaching Credential required
1-3 years of teaching experience working with a diverse student population preferred
Bilingual Spanish a plus
