Summary

Opticore’s mission is to provide scalable, energy-efficient computing solutions that address the global energy and environmental challenges posed by the growing demands of AI computing with 100x more energy efficiency and area density. We’re looking for a self-motivated Photonic Characterization Experimentalist to join our team and help shape the future of high-speed, high-performance computing. You’ll work on experimental testing of out custom silicon photonics chip across the entire product lifecycle, making you a key contributor to our engineering efforts.Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute optical and electrical tests for wafer‑level, die‑level, and packaged photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
  • Build, maintain, and automate laboratory setups using lasers, power meters, probe station, optical spectrum analyzers, high-speed signal generator, scope, etc.
  • Characterize device performance metrics—optical spectrum, RF bandwidth, insertion loss, modulation efficiency, etc.
  • Develop Python scripts for instrument automation and data analysis
  • Troubleshoot test anomalies; perform root‑cause analysis in collaboration with design, packaging, and process teams.
  • Generate clear documentation (test plans, procedures, and characterization reports) and present results in design reviews and customer meetings.
  • Drive continuous improvement of measurement accuracy, throughput, and lab safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics/Photonics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience characterizing PICs, waveguides, or optical components.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation (tunable lasers, OSAs, LNAs/VNAs, probe stations).
  • Data‑analysis skills in Python or MATLAB.
  • Solid understanding of integrated‑photonics fundamentals and measurement best practices.
  • Excellent documentation, presentation, and cross‑functional communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with wafer‑scale automated probing and test scripting (PyVisa, LabVIEW, etc.).
  • Familiarity with high‑speed RF/optical measurements (10 Gbaud+).
  • Knowledge of packaging interactions (fiber attach, flip‑chip, thermal management) and their impact on optical performance.
  • Background in statistical process control and DOE for yield improvement.
  • PhD in Photonics or a closely related discipline.

What Motivates Our Team

  • Excellent benefits – medical, vision, dental, 401(k), paid time off, and more.
  • Strong work-life balance – a flexible, supportive culture that values your personal time.
  • Groundbreaking work in optical computing – shape the future of data processing.
  • Impactful innovation – our designs push the boundaries of performance and efficiency.
