Overview
PDF Solutions (NASDAQ: PDFS) is seeking a senior PCB Layout Engineer to join the R&D team focusing on developing a cutting-edge electron beam inspection tool (eProbe®). These tools are basically high-speed scanning electron microscopes (SEM) used at 300mm semiconductor wafer fabs to implement PDF’s Design-for-Inspection (DFI) methodology used in yield ramp and manufacturing control.
As a PCB Layout Engineer, he/she will contribute to all phases of PCB design and production for our electron beam inspection tool (eProbe®). The candidate must bring a combination of PCB design, PCB Fabrication, SMT Assembly, and test knowledge to a highly collaborative cross team functional team.
Responsibilities
Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to produce industry leading printed circuit board (PCB) designs from prototype through mass production using Altium Designer.
- Design and develop layouts of analog/mixed-signal PCBs with emphasis of superior performance including but not limited to electromagnetic interference (EMI), signal integrity (SI), and power integrity (PI), thermal management and etc.
- Create PCB fabrication and assembly drawings with, for example, Altium Draftsman.
- Define PCB design rules, design within manufacturing limits, create Altium outjobs, fabrication and assembly documentation and validate designs with DRC checks prior to release.
- Collaborate with suppliers on PCB stackups, capabilities, and solving engineering issues.
- Manage external ECAD resources as needed.
- Write documents (such as rework instructions, fab/assembly notes, and etc.), handle BOM, and perform ECOs.
- Drive simultaneous development of multiple challenging, complex PCB designs to meet critical program deadlines.
Qualifications
BS/BA (or above) degree in Electrical Engineering, or technical college or equivalent years of experience.
- 3+ full-time years of experience using Altium Designer.
- Experience routing impedance-controlled nets, including differential pairs, per engineer’s instructions and component specifications.
- Strong skills in designing quality multi-layer, high density designs with careful consideration of analog, digital, high speed, low noise, and/or power circuits.
- Demonstrated understanding of IPC, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Testability (DFT).
- Knowledge of PCB design standards for common interfaces, such as I2C, SPI, Ethernet, and etc.
- Experience with best practices for system integration and layout verification including mating of multiple boards (pin 1 verification methods, system level high speed length matching) and mechanical interference checks.
- Experience with one or more of the following: Altium Designer, Altium 365, Altium Concord Pro or Nexus, PCB ECAD Library creation and management.
- Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate and operate in a fast-paced cross-functional environment including engineering teams, vendors, suppliers, and outside resource management.
