Job Summary:

The Payroll Manager is a crucial role within the Boyle Transportation organization, holding responsibility for overseeing the organization’s payroll function. The Payroll Manager will deliver accurate payroll processing, ensure legal statutory compliance along with adherence to internal policies while maintaining accurate payroll records.

This position reports directly to the Accounting Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end weekly payroll processing for Over The Road drivers, hourly and salaried staff using the operations and payroll systems for 350-400 people
  • Maintains and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions for internal and external audits
  • Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Oversee payroll tax filings, payments, corrections, and resolve tax issues
  • Register payroll tax accounts in new tax jurisdictions and maintain validation tables in payroll system
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline and improve payroll processing and overall payroll experience for employees
  • Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, ensuring any errors are corrected quickly and thoroughly
  • Address employee payroll inquiries promptly, professionally, and with a service mindset, providing clear explanations regarding deductions, adjustments, and general payroll issues
  • Manage quarterly and year-end processes
  • provide training for payroll staff and oversee daily workflow of the department
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field preferred
  • FPC or CPP Certification is a plus
  • 5-8 years of experience in multi-state payroll processing required.
  • Capable of acquiring a Department of Defense Security Clearance.
  • Proficiency with navigating completed time and payroll systems; Paylocity Time & Labor and payroll processing experience preferred
  • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in managing complex payroll calculation data
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Excellent PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not have any direct reports

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
