Position Title Part-Time Collection Manager, Museum of Art Position Number 896357 Position Category Administration School/Division Office of the Provost (division) Department Full-Time or Part-Time Part-Time Description The Hofstra University Museum of Art (HUMA) is an AAM accredited fine art museum, with two gallery spaces and an outdoor sculpture collection located on the 240-acre campus of Hofstra University. HUMA is an integral part of the educational, pedagogical, and cultural life of the University as well as the greater New York metropolitan region. Reporting to the Museum's Director and Assistant Director of Exhibitions and Collections, the Collection Manager (CM) will professionally manage and care for the more than 5,200 objects and 75 sculptures in the HUMA collection, including maintenance of all collections, object records, and storage areas. This is a part-time on-campus position, working 18-20 hours a week between Monday and Friday from 9am to 5pm. On occasion evening or weekend hours may be required. This is a grant-funded position for the period of April 10, 2025 - December 31, 2025. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Develops and maintains appropriate AAM and other professional standards, policies and procedures, for the care and handling of works of art and artifacts. * Manages all aspects of processing acquisitions, including registration, cataloging, deaccessioning, art handling, digitization, environmental control, loan processing, insurance, records computerization, storage maintenance, and information retrieval in response to research requests. * Maintains and updates digital and online databases. * Develops and supports scholarly access to the collection and has knowledge of art history as well as experience with the curatorial process. * Manages all aspects of preparation and installation of exhibitions, including coordinating and/or curating at least one exhibition per year and will assist with all aspects of preparation and installation of exhibitions to include matting and framing as needed. * Collaborates with Museum Educators to support the development of educational and public programming for the University community and the public. * Develops, plans and implements short and long-range goals for the management of the collection. * Trains and supervises undergraduate and graduate student interns and assistants. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications * M.A. or M.F.A. degree in Art History/Fine Arts/Anthropology/Museum Studies from an accredited program required. * Minimum 2 years of professional experience managing a collection as a Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Collection Manager, Curator of Collections or a comparable position. * Requires the handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing/walking for extended periods during the day. * Possess in-depth knowledge of conservation theory and practices. * The successful candidate will be flexible, creative, and have excellent oral and written communication skills. * Ability to be a member of a small team of museum professionals and to work with a diverse group of faculty, students and visitors. * Ability to maintain accurate records and documents. * Strong computer skills including Adobe Suite and graphic imaging. * Knowledge of PastPerfect or other collection management database software. * Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet timelines in a deadline driven environment and to work autonomously. Preferred Qualifications * Knowledge of copyright permissions and rights and reproduction regulations and procedures preferred. Salary/Salary Range $30.00 per hour Additional Information Hofstra University provides the above salary* as a good faith estimate of the starting pay range which considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and education.
