Tesla is seeking an experienced lawyer to work on litigation, administrative, and regulatory matters in support of our consumer vehicle products. This lawyer will primarily help represent Tesla in administrative and litigation matters pertaining to Tesla's direct sales business related to sales, service, delivery, and financing of our products. Duties will include representing Tesla in administrative and litigation matters before state and federal administrative bodies and courts. This lawyer will also provide advice and counsel regarding regulatory matters that could impact our business licenses, as well as strategic advising on policy development and advocacy associated with regulations affecting the automotive industry. This lawyer will help drive the company's expansion into new North American territories while ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and statutory requirements. At the direction of the company, the successful candidate works independently in performing legal tasks that are broad in scope. * Represent the company in administrative hearings and court proceedings to obtain sales licenses * Conduct fact investigation, analyze legal issues, and develop litigation strategies * Conduct affirmative and defensive discovery * Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents * Identify and prepare witnesses for trials and other proceedings * Partner with business stakeholders to review and resolve state regulatory matters related to our sales and business practices * Work on governmental regulatory investigations and other government inquiries and manage outside counsel, as needed * JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school * Member of a state bar * 7-plus years of experience in litigation and/or administrative proceedings, preferably including proceedings before state franchise boards or agencies * Ability to absorb and synthesize wide variety of laws and regulations * Preferably, experience working for an automaker, auto supplier, government safety agency, or law firm supporting same * Exceptional analytical and communication skills, both oral and written * Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
