Job Summary
SunGold Foods is seeking a skilled and dependable Machine Operator to operate and maintain automated packaging equipment at our production facility. This role involves ensuring the efficient and accurate packaging of our food products while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Automated Packaging Equipment Operation
- Set up, operate, and monitor automated packaging equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Adjust machine settings to meet product specifications, such as weight, sealing, and labeling requirements.
- Quality Assurance
- Perform routine quality checks to ensure packaging meets company and regulatory standards (e.g., accurate labeling, proper sealing).
- Immediately address any packaging defects or inconsistencies.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Conduct basic maintenance and cleaning of packaging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and resolve minor mechanical issues; escalate complex problems to the maintenance team.
- Safety and Compliance
- Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ensure packaging operations comply with food safety standards, including HACCP and GMPs.
- Production Support
- Monitor inventory levels of packaging materials (e.g., boxes, films, labels) and notify the supervisor of shortages.
- Work with team members to meet production schedules and packaging targets.
- Documentation
- Accurately complete production logs, including machine performance, downtime, and maintenance activities.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in packaging, manufacturing, or food production is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of packaging equipment (e.g., bagging machines, scales, conveyors) is preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally assist with larger boxes (e.g., 50-60 pounds) as needed.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining product quality.
- Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and safety protocols meticulously.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a production facility with varying temperatures (cooler or warmer environments depending on the process area).
- Exposure to loud machinery, dust, and food-grade oils may occur.
- Employees must wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves, hairnets, and ear protection.
- Production schedules may require overtime, weekend, or holiday shifts.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to stand for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours per shift).
- Regularly lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Perform repetitive tasks, including bending, twisting, and reaching.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production quotas.
