About The Role

We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic and personable OSP Inspector who can help us ensure that the backbone of our digital age remains resilient, secure, and ever-reliable. Based in our Oakland office you will be responsible for the backbone of our infrastructure.

What You’ll Be Doing

As part of the Operations Organization, you’ll help to ensure our outside plant infrastructure standards are met. At all levels, colleagues will rely on your expertise to properly inspect infrastructure, maintain crucial documentation, safety compliance and above all network reliability. It’s a role with a lot of variety, and day-to-day, you’ll mainly be involved with:

  • Manage evaluation and vetting of OSP contractors and fiber installation design vendors
  • Coordinate initial site walks to identify equipment space and verify constructability
  • Review OSP Engineering design and BOMs to ensure adequate Fiber construction budget baseline
  • Conduct bid walks with OSP contractors and fiber installation vendors to solicit proposals and select project construction vendors
  • Evaluate construction proposals from vendors to review vendor qualifications, comparison of scopes of work, completeness, and accuracy of BOMs, and pricing.
  • Ensure that proposals meet venue and jurisdiction requirements
  • Evaluate design drawings (such as KMZ files), Construction Drawings, and other A&E services for accuracy and completion
  • Coordinate with customers to ensure installation and integration completion
  • Ensure that project execution is performed in accordance with specific project Service Orders
  • Maintain project QA procedures and ensure that site safety requirements are upheld
  • Coordinate punch list sites walks and manage the completion of any deficient items
  • Participate in research pertaining to development of new network systems and management tools
  • Participate in a rotating 24/7 customer support on-call schedule
  • Will need to be able to work a flexible schedule, which will include some nights and weekends due to project restrictions.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to produce service hand-off packages for new customers


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science and 2-3 years of experience on field-based work with optical fiber cable and in POPs, carrier hotels, data centers and Central Office environments
  • Digital TL1 and/or Element Management System experience
  • Optical troubleshooting skills using OTDR, OSA, BERT and optical power meters
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret test results
  • Passive, active OADM & ROADM DWDM systems
  • Broad understanding of optical theory, transport technologies, and the operation of optical transport systems (including SONET, SDH, DWDM)
