Inviting applications for the role of Principal Consultant, Oracle Database administrator

Infrastructure and Service Delivery IT aka ISDI (under FDR) department serves multiple sub asset classes in FDR. It has a significant presence in all major sites. ISDI department operates with multiple functional lines including Unix, Windows, Oracle, PostgreSQL,WAS,SQL.

We manage the completed infrastructure under FDR and provide our expertise to all sub asset classes. We are a niche team with subject matter experts in various areas.


Role Overview:

Responsible for the design build and day to day support of the Oracle databases. These databases are each 100TB in size(and growing) , hold over 13 Billion rows of data each and together process circa 1 billion SQL statements per day. As part of a DevOps team you will work closely with the application and infrastructure POD SME’s to ensure these critical services function to the required standards. Maintain and improve SLA’s and ensure compliance to policies at all times. Actively participate to achieve organization objectives for efficiencies, innovations, and quality delivery.

Perform pro-active analysis on day-to-day work, identify areas for automation, report and follow up on process or technical gaps, reduce repeat or false incidents, and standardise tasks/processes.

Support is required 24 hrs x 7 days in week x 365 days from office or on-call depending on business needs (usually 1 week in 4 on-call) . Required to work on weekends (usually 1 in 4) often at short notice. Resource will get compensatory time- off for as per HR guidelines

Responsibility:

All aspects of the Oracle DBA Support including the design, build, ongoing enhancements (e.g. automation) and 24* 7 support

Essential Experience:

  • Must have strong experience of Oracle (v19c) RDBMS, RAC and Dataguard on a LINUX platform including: Perform Database software installation, upgrades and apply relevant patches
  • Perform Database migrations – intra platform or inter platforms
  • Build and Deploy/Implement Solutions. Perform Capacity Planning and DR Planning.
  • Troubleshooting and fixing incidents
  • Creating / altering / dropping tablespaces
  • Clone one environment from another
  • Database backup / restore
  • Data Archival activities
  • Assist the development community with the resolution of miscellaneous queries and problems
  • Database space management
  • Implementing releases / service requests
  • Server monitoring including health checks at server level and database level
  • Keeping the systems up and running cleanly
  • Timely escalation of issues to Team Lead
  • Performance and Tuning of database
  • Scripting Skills
  • Customer Service and Problem Resolution
  • Actively participate in crisis calls taking the lead from an Oracle DB perspective
  • Participate in identifying problem situations and resolve to give maximum customer satisfaction

Ideal Experience

  • Knowledge of RAC
  • Experience of Oracle databases running on RedHat Linux
  • Experience on Delphix will be good to have

Ideal Skills/Competencies:


  • Experience of contributing to the continuous improvement of the end-to-end design/build/support process
  • Experience of working closely with other teams and liaising with developers to provide input to the IT requirements.
  • Understand those business parameters which could influence performance, e.g. data sizes, network bandwidth, scalability, etc.
