What To Expect
A Tesla Data Center Operator is responsible for monitoring and operating critical data center equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations. The operator is also responsible for ensuring that all equipment within the data center is operating as efficiently as possible to meet Tesla's aggressive safety, efficiency, and sustainability standards, exceeding industry norms.

As a Tesla Data Center Operator, you will have the opportunity to operate and maintain one of the most sophisticated and energy-efficient data centers in the world. You will assist in driving world-class energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact through intelligent operational practices and flexibility. Tesla operators will work closely with system experts to continuously enhance and refine the data center's state-of-the-art systems, helping accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

What You'll Do

  • Operate and monitor the operation of all HVAC systems, hydronic cooling systems, chilled water systems, heating and heat recovery systems, medium voltage electrical distribution, and other critical infrastructure within the data center
  • Start and stop equipment, ensuring continuous data center operations through control software and automated systems
  • Provide support for new equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and sustaining operations in the data center. Perform routine operator rounds of equipment and systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Troubleshoot operational parameters that fall outside normal operating thresholds, ensuring that corrective actions are taken promptly to maintain uptime
  • Utilize control systems to monitor equipment and verify trends, working to improve the reliability of systems through collaboration with teammates and data center engineers
  • Work with schematics, piping and instrument diagrams, layouts, plans, and written/verbal instructions to address system issues
  • Safely work with hazardous materials and areas associated with the data center infrastructure. Follow safety policies and ensure compliance with all safety regulations


  • What You'll Bring

  • Must understand basic mechanical and electrical system operations, including those specific to data center environments. Experience with electrical distribution, cooling systems, and critical infrastructure is desired
  • Must demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a strong desire to learn. Ability to multitask and adapt to the high-paced, ever-changing environment of a data center
  • Must be adaptable to various work schedules, including night shifts and compressed work weeks, in a high-demand environment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail, flexibility, and prioritization skills
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information
  • Able to use Microsoft Office software and other data center management tools
  • 2 years of college/technical school or equivalent work experience, with applicable documented training and/or certifications being a plus


  • Essential Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
  • Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
  • Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day.
  • Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
  • Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
  • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
