Summary

Position Overview:

We are seeking a results-driven and technically proficient SMT Operations Manager to lead and optimize the full scope of our Surface Mount Technology (SMT) operations. This key leadership role will be responsible for managing day-to-day SMT production activities, implementing process improvements, driving quality and efficiency, and ensuring seamless coordination between departments to meet production and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in electronics manufacturing and demonstrated success in managing high-performance production teams.


Key Responsibilities:


Operations Management

  • Lead all aspects of SMT operations including planning, scheduling, staffing, and daily execution of production activities.
  • Ensure achievement of production goals related to output, quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
  • Oversee SMT line performance and proactively address issues related to machine downtime, material shortages, and process inefficiencies.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies.
  • Evaluate and optimize SMT processes for throughput, yield, and quality.
  • Work with engineering teams to introduce process changes and improvements in a controlled and scalable manner.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Customer Service to support new product introductions (NPI), resolve technical issues, and improve overall operational performance.
  • Serve as a key point of contact between SMT production and upstream/downstream processes.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of supervisors, technicians, and operators to achieve department goals.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, safety, teamwork, and continuous learning.
  • Conduct performance reviews and assist in the recruitment and development of technical talent.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all SMT operations comply with industry standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, ISO 9001), internal procedures, and customer specifications.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to monitor defect trends and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, Electronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, with 3+ years managing SMT or PCB assembly operations.
  • Strong knowledge of SMT equipment (e.g., pick-and-place, reflow, AOI, SPI) and SMT process flow.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience in a fast-paced, high-mix environment.
  • Proficiency in lean manufacturing principles, root cause analysis, and process improvement tools.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
