What is the role about?
Bitvavo is expanding its Risk Management team and is looking for an additional Operational Risk Officer. Our team, currently composed of six Risk Officers and a Risk Manager, is committed to delivering effective risk control, keeping risk oversight and reporting to the Risk Committee and meanwhile and exceeding industry standards. We are looking for a pragmatic professional who takes ownership and provides meaningful risk insights to stakeholders.
The team’s main objective is to ensure that the business operates within the risk appetite set by the Management Board and to advise when this is not the case.
As Operational Risk Officer, your reach will span the entire organisation. You will work directly with employees across all departments to ensure Operational Risk policies (excluding IT security policies) are followed. Topics include Outsourcing, Crypto Wallet Operations, Payment Services, and Reconciliation. Our flat organisational structure will allow you to quickly build relationships and integrate into our company culture.
How will you make an impact?
- Listen carefully and give meaningful feedback by clear and concise recommendations;
- Conduct an independent review of any identified risks by the Business in relation to new/material changes to product and/or services that affect our clients or crypto exchange;
- Think independently and challenge the 1st line on key risk indicators which keep Bitvavo to operate within their risk appetite;
- Go beyond the origin of your risk task and be creative in finding suitable solutions for resolving problems;
- Show us how to perform an excellent Risk Control Self Assessment which adds value to Bitvavo and the way it services our clients;
- Explain how to effectively perform a control testing and write a useful advice to the line manager and report these results to the Non Financial risk Committee.
How will you be successful?
- At least 3 years of risk management experience, preferably gained in the crypto or broader financial sector. Fintech experience is a strong plus;
- University degree in Mathematics, Economics, Business Administration, or another relevant field;
- A critical mindset and the ability to provide clear, concise, and independent risk opinions;
- A sense of ownership and the willingness to challenge the first line when necessary;
- A proactive, hands-on mindset, who likes to take initiative;
- The ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including line and senior management, external suppliers, and subject matter experts;
- Knowledge of DORA and MiCA regulations is a strong plus.
