Description

Position Function: The Director of Community Engagement is the lead manager responsible for conceptualizing, developing and facilitating the implementation of projects related to establishing OCOK as a valued neighbor in those communities that we serve. This position requires close coordination and communication with managers and clinicians throughout. In addition, this person is required to work successfully with representatives from various community organizations, government entities, neighborhoods and key stakeholders with respect to the diverse populations and cultures the agency seeks to serve. Under the general administrative direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Community Engagement will direct and oversee the development and dissemination of key messages while expanding the platform to engage various stakeholders such as sponsors, foster parents, donors, partners, and media.

Working Conditions: Occasional work on weekends and some evening as necessary.

Key Expectations/Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary liaison to promote the organization’s vision and helps to promote that within the communities that the agency serves.
  • Facilitates alignment of OCOK mission across teams at the organizational level.
  • Represents the company at community meetings. This position serves as a principal representative of the organization, maintaining and developing relationships with key external contacts and the community at large.
  • Develops and promotes community engagement opportunities. This position is responsible for developing policies and implementing programs at community events. The director recruits and engages staff and affiliates in these activities.
  • Effective government affairs and public relations child welfare advocate.
  • Identify publishing opportunities and speaking engagements at conferences, forums, panels, etc. to maximize potential exposure.
  • Crisis management with community and media. Including coordination with DFPS communications staff.
  • Proactively identify and cultivate new media contact.
  • Create effective organizational and marketing materials (e.g. newsletter, annual report, brochures, special event materials, electronic newsletter, press release, media advisory, etc.)
  • Oversee website content updates and enhancement; and mange official social networking channels.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with graphic designers, freelance writers and other talents as needed to promote the work and mission of the organization.
  • Maintain effective communication and contact with agency staff to develop compelling stories that highlight impact and successes.
  • Oversee adoption recruitment including public coordination of events with stakeholder, selection coordination, internal coordination and all public-facing adoption recruitment activities.
  • Coach and direct the staff.

Requirements

Educational Requirements: A minimum of a B.A. in communications, English, marketing, journalism, public relations or closely related field. A Masters degree is desirable and will be considered with preference.

Experience Requirements: Seven years of experience in community work and leading communications or media projects. Non-profit or government work experience preferred. Demonstrated experience with working in community engagement for a fast-paced, ever-changing organization. The employee has outstanding writing, presentation and communication skills and editorial expertise. Eloquence in all communications a must. Proven excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.

Functional Requirements: Director of Community Engagement will develop and implement an integrated, well designed and well thought out strategy that promotes the health and access to health for foster children. This position will successfully establish partnerships with community-based providers and administrative and clinical staff. Manage internal and external relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders. Manage the OCOK brand and communications including print, digital and media. Additionally, the Director will be responsible for overseeing adoption recruitment services for the agency.
