Full time/ Master’s Degree and License required

The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides therapeutic group programming on adult and adolescent psychiatric inpatient units. Groups may include health and wellness topics, sensory modalities, stress management, independent living skills, ADLs, and other psychoeducational material. The OT also provides individual evaluation reports and consultation to the unit treatment teams related to discharge planning and development of aftercare plans by assessing needs for outpatient supports, equipment, or other resources.

REPORTS TO:

  • Rehabilitation Services Manager

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • To provide individual Occupational Therapy evaluations for patients as needed
  • To provide recommendations for treatment team members on inpatient units regarding potential needs for specialized rehab services
  • Develops and conducts groups on all units
  • Documents pertinent clinical data following groups and consults
  • Assists as necessary for projects, reports, and other duties as assigned by manager
  • Participates in maintaining inventory of supplies

Qualifications

QUALIFICATONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Must have certification and licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Must have experience with psychiatric inpatient treatment, mental health/substance use and adult and adolescent populations, sensory modulation, and independent living skills evaluation.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Effective group facilitation skills
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and their effects on functional capacity
  • Knowledge of therapeutic use of multimedia, including sensory modulation and integration, to support stabilization and rehabilitation
  • Understanding of age, socioeconomic, and cultural factors affecting patients’ interest and ability to participate in rehabilitation programs
  • Ability to effectively redirect patients and set clear, timely limits on inappropriate behavior
  • Knowledge of trauma informed care
  • Knowledge of DMH/JCAHO/CMS regulations and standards and Human Rights
