Under the general direction of department management, performs a variety of complex duties for the scheduling and registration of patients. Assists with Drug and Breath Alcohol testing as needed.

I. Major Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and registers all patients via the electronic medical record (EMR) system in a timely manner by obtaining appropriate demographic and financial information.
  • Verifies patient’s employer/company and enters appropriate specialty billing indicator or self-pay status.
  • Initiates authorizations from companies as needed.
  • Greets, verifies, and completes the check-in process. Collects appropriate fee for self-pay.
  • Faxes MRO completed Chain of Custodies (COCs) and clearances to employer and 3rd party payor in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the collection of company information for new clients.
  • Assists with Drug and Breath Alcohol testing as needed, following the Chain of Custody (COC) process.
  • Assists in maintaining/ordering inventory to include clinic and office supplies. 9. Proactively identifies opportunities for workflow improvements when working department denials.
  • Escalates issues to management as they are identified.
  • Performs similar and related duties as required or directed.

License/Certification/Education:

II. Position Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma
  • Urine Drug Screen Collection Certification
  • Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) Certification
  • If not available upon hire/transfer, certifications above must be obtained within 6 months from date of hire/transfer. If certifications are not obtained within 6 months of hire/transfer, the caregiver will be terminated, or caregiver may apply for another position for which they meet the minimum qualifications.

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree in business or healthcare-related field

Experience/Skills:

Required:

  • Proficient data-entry skills with attention to detail
  • Computer skills that include use of Windows and the ability to navigate
  • Customer service skills both verbal and written; with a variety of internal and external customers
  • Ability to work in a high volume, team-oriented environment
  • English speaking, reading, and writing skills

Preferred:

  • Minimum one (1) year of data entry and/or customer service experience
  • Experience in hospital admissions, insurance, billing, scheduling or telephone customer service
  • Previous insurance verification experience
  • Bilingual speaking, reading, and writing skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
