Summary

The Manager, Operations Safety & Health is responsible for the overall management, direction and execution of the WSSC Water safety program for operations employees, visitors and non-construction contractors. Essential Functions Supervises staff to ensure their actions and behaviors are promoting a positive safety culture Provides technical advice, coaching and mentoring to employees and supervisors on safety initiatives and any warranted changes Works with Union officials to address, mediate and mitigate safety concerns Maintains a consistent comprehensive Occupational Health & Safety program that meets and or exceeds regulatory requirements Develops and administers safety and health-related education programs to increase the awareness and competence of all WSSC Water employees Oversees the implementation of effective safety and health policies and procedures Prepares and analyzes job safety and accident statistical reports to provide direction for program changes to enhance preventive actions Coordinates development of and compliance with occupational health & safety programs across WSSC Water work groups Coordinates and assists in the planning and scheduling of periodic safety and health activities including emergency management and response planning, safety inspections, job site assessments, accident investigations, medical surveillance, and safety and health meetings Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water business Other Functions Assists WSSC Water teams in developing their departments’ proactive safety and health program(s) Provides quarterly reports on the organization’s safety performance and the status of teams working towards meeting established safety and health goals and objectives Develops and reports performance measures for the WSSC Water’s respective teams and groups that include lagging and leading safety performance measures Performs related duties as required Work Environment And Physical Demands Business casual office setting with field visits Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of administrative principles and practices, including goal setting, program development, implementation and evaluation and supervision of staff, through direct and or subordinate levels of supervision Knowledge of principles and practices of budget development, contract administration and accountability Clear understanding of current safety and health best practices Leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with WSSC Water employees, the public and contractors Good writing and verbal communication skills Good interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate and promote security and safety program objectives with WSSC Water managers and staff Ability to interpret job safety analyses to modify program objectives Ability to formulate effective safety and health reports highlighting safety performance and any needs for improvement Minimum Education, Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ experience in environmental health and & safety programs OR High School diploma (or equivalent) and 9+ years’ experience in environmental health and & safety programs
