As an NPI Supply Chain Program Manager, you will play a critical role in managing the end-to-end supply chain introduction process for our optical components used in our network infrastructure products. In addition to coordinating and executing all supply chain activities related to new product introductions (NPI), you will focus on cost reduction initiatives as well as relationship building and management activities with suppliers within the optical components domain. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contract manufacturers, and key stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient delivery of high-quality components according to our aggressive timelines while optimizing costs and fostering strong contract manufacturing partnerships.
- NPI Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Global Commodity Management (GCM), key manufacturing partners, and product management teams to understand new product requirements and ensure seamless integration of optical components into our network infrastructure products. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define and drive supply chain milestones and deliverables, emphasizing cost optimization and supplier readiness for ramp and production on critical NPI programs.
- NPI supplier readiness: in collaboration with R&D, Product Engineering and the Global Commodity Team, candidate will assist in onboarding new suppliers and ensure that Ciena’s requirements are well understood and driven to meet ramp and production objectives. Candidate will work in collaboration with the GCM team to manage existing and new suppliers to ensure capacity readiness, material assurance and technical readiness to support ramp and production needs.
- Contract Manufacturing Management: candidate will work closely with CM partners to drive execution of key milestones that are in line with NPI schedules and timelines as well as ramp and production deliverables. This includes communicating Ciena’s qualification requirements, ramp requirements and overall forecast needs. Candidate will work closely with CM to identify any issues and work with appropriate internal stakeholders to clear the path to production readiness.
- Cost Reduction Initiatives: Identify and lead cost reduction initiatives within the NPI supply chain process. Collaborate with R&D and GCM teams to explore opportunities for value engineering, design optimization, and process improvements that drive cost efficiencies without compromising quality or performance.
- Production Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation plans to minimize supply chain disruptions while considering cost implications. Proactively monitor and manage supply chain risks during NPI and production phases, including demand fluctuations, component shortages, and logistics challenges.
- Metrics and Reporting: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and monitor the effectiveness of the NPI supply chain process, including cost reduction targets and contract manufacturing support. metrics. Prepare regular reports and presentations to communicate supply chain performance, cost savings achieved, supplier performance, and present recommendations to senior management.
The Must Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain Management or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in supply chain management, preferably in the electronics or optical components industry.
- Strong knowledge of optical components, their manufacturing processes, and associated supply chain challenges is preferred.
- Proven track record of successfully managing NPI supply chain activities, from concept to commercialization, with a focus on cost reduction and supplier relationship building.
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making and cost analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in supply chain management software and tools.
Pay Range
The annual pay range for this position is $106,300 - $169,700 CAD.
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
