Summary

Job Summary: The Head of the Non Destructive Testing (NDT) Department will oversee all NDT activities, managing a team of professionals and ensuring the successful execution of various projects. This role will be responsible for maintaining the department as a profit center, driving operational excellence, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and managing client relationships. Key Responsibilities: Department Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to the NDT department, including planning, budgeting, and goal setting. Ensure that the department operates efficiently as a profit center, meeting revenue targets and controlling costs. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality within the department. Project Management: Oversee the execution of multiple NDT projects, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery. Assign projects to team members, supervise their progress, and ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards. Review and approve project reports, ensuring that they are accurate and meet client requirements. Technical Expertise: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NDT techniques, equipment, and industry standards, ensuring the department uses cutting-edge methods. Provide technical guidance and support to the team on complex NDT methodologies, including ultrasonic testing (UT), radiography (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), and other relevant methods. Business Development: Identify new business opportunities within the NDT space and work with the sales/marketing team to grow the department's revenue. Develop and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and repeat business. Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and contracts for new projects, negotiating terms where necessary. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure that all NDT activities comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and client specifications. Implement and oversee quality assurance systems, conducting regular audits to ensure compliance. Develop and maintain department policies, procedures, and documentation related to NDT practices and safety. Team Development & Training: Recruit, train, and mentor staff within the department, ensuring that they possess the skills and certifications necessary to perform their roles effectively. Encourage professional development and certification in advanced NDT techniques for team members. Conduct performance reviews, set individual goals, and provide constructive feedback. Financial Management: Develop and manage the department's budget, controlling operational costs, resource allocation, and equipment purchases. Monitor financial performance, including profitability, and implement corrective actions where needed to ensure the department remains a profit center. Ensure accurate invoicing and timely payment from clients for services rendered. Equipment & Resource Management: Ensure that all NDT equipment is maintained and calibrated according to industry standards. Plan for the procurement of new equipment and technologies to stay ahead in the market. Optimize the utilization of resources and manpower across projects. Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders regarding NDT projects. Hold regular meetings with senior management to update them on department performance, project status, and profitability. Risk Management & Safety: Identify potential risks in NDT operations and implement mitigation strategies. Promote and enforce safety standards in all department activities, ensuring a safe working environment for all staff. Requirements: Educational Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Civil Engineering, or equivalent qualification in Non Destructive Testing. Certifications: Certification in NDT methods (ASNT Level III or equivalent in at least two NDT methods, e.g., UT, RT, MT, PT). Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in NDT, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role. Proven track record of managing NDT projects and leading a successful department.Ability to manage both office and on-site project work, including travel to client locations as necessary. Skills: Strong technical knowledge of NDT techniques and industry standards. Excellent leadership and people management skills. Business acumen with experience managing profit centers. Proficient in project management and report generation. Ability to develop client relationships and generate business. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Working Conditions: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
