We are seeking a motivated individual to join and support our CA - Columbia Quality Control team based in Gaston, SC. The ideal candidate for the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Technician will be results driven, motivated by technical challenges and able to use their excellent interpersonal communication, organization and problem-solving analytical skills to inspect and document the safety and integrity of pressure vessels, tanks, and piping systems using internal and external visual inspections and non-destructive testing methods.
Responsibilities
The Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Technician will be reportable to the Quality Control Manager and serve as an active member of our Engineering, Reliability and Stores team. Their primary responsibilities will be accomplished through the following tasks:
* Performs NDE in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures.
* Interprets the results of applicable methods of non-destructive testing such as liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, thermal or infrared, ultrasonic, radiographic, and visual testing.
* Selects, calibrates, and/or operates equipment used in the non-destructive testing of materials.
* Identifies defects in solid materials using ultrasound testing techniques.
* Prepares reports on non-destructive testing results and communicates findings to appropriate parties.
* Documents non-destructive testing methods, processes, or results.
* Conducts liquid penetrant tests to locate surface cracks by coating objects with fluorescent dyes, cleaning excess penetrant, and applying developer.
* Maps the presence of imperfections within objects using sonic measurements.
* Visually examines materials, structures, or components for signs of corrosion, metal fatigue, cracks, or other flaws.
* Interprets and reviews engineering drawings, as required.
* Assists in the training and development of others within the organization.
* Participates in Root Cause Failure Analysis teams.
* Performs inspection of piping, vessels and tanks and records data in inspection log.
* Provides integral input to control/reduce life cycle costs of plant equipment by increasing mechanical reliability.
* Some travel may be required (10% estimated, some overnight, domestic and international).
Skills & Qualifications
Job Requirements:
* High school/GED equivalent, minimum; some college, particularly science oriented, preferred; bachelor's degree in a science oriented field a plus.
* Minimum of 5-years' experience as a Level II non-destructive evaluation/testing technician.
* Ultrasonic Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, and Liquid Penetrant Testing certification per SNT-TC-1A.
* Demonstrated ability to effectively perform assigned NDE tasks and interpret results of inspections.
* Certified weld inspector status (CWI) a plus.
* API 510, 570, and/or 653 certification a plus.
* Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
* Strong safety and quality background.
* Results oriented process driven team leader with exceptional organizational skills.
Additional Requirements:
* Must be able to lift 25-pounds, unassisted.
* Bending, stretching, standing for extended periods of time, reaching, twisting, sitting, and walking.
* Climbing and working off of ladders, stairs, and scaffolds.
* Must be willing to work overtime and on weekends, if needed.
* Working in or near industrial hazards.
* Ability and desire to inspect vessel internals by means of confined space entry.
