Summary

Under the Administration of the I.T. and Communication manager, the Newsletter Editor is a communication link to inform and educate members of the Neyaskweyahk Cree Nation of; the nation’s operations, aboriginal/treaty issues at the regional and national level, community events, and Cree traditions/values of the Neyaskweyahk Cree. Hours of work are Monday to Friday some evenings, weekends, and holidays accumulating 63 hours biweekly, the schedule will be preapproved by the supervisor. Duties and Responsibilities: -Maintains a strong and trusting relationship with the general public, leadership, aboriginal media and organizations. -Upholds a high level of professionalism and courtesy. -Maintains accuracy of work through; dictated interviews and verification of factual findings. -Effective reporting of relevant information pertaining to the functions and activities of local, national and international business. -Attends and reports on relevant meetings/events or when requested. -Ensures information presented is factual and unbiased. -Prepares and compiles reported information. -Ensures articles and submissions are formatted and edited before printing. -Enforces deadline dates for newsletter submission. -Creates attractive, well written and engaging document, abides by newsletter format, following I.T. and Communications Policy and Procedures. -Seeks innovative and efficient ways to make certain the newsletter is distributed to a majority of tribal members. -Excellent reporting skills. -Able to work with minimal supervision. -Print and mail out Newsletter, and distribute to the community. -Order supplies for printing and mail outs. -Available to work flexible hours: some evenings, weekends, and holidays.  Take photographs and photo edit. -Other specific duties as required. -Sign Oath of Confidentiality. -Comply with the Ermineskin Personnel Policies and IT & Communication department Policy and Procedures. Requirements: -Must have Valid Driver’s License and Transportation. -Proficient communication skills. -Energetic, confident, trusting, open minded and relatable character. -Must be self-motivated, assertive, organized and literal. -Must be comfortable interacting and dialoguing within a group or individual setting. -Effective interviewing experience and ability to accurately dictate interviews. -Must have the ability to meet deadlines, efficient time management. -Flexible schedule, ability to report on activities and events within the community and work overtime; including some evenings, weekends, and holidays. - Experience in area of Journalism would be an asset. -Demonstrated ability or experience with Office suite program software including Power Point and Publisher programs. -Digital Camera, and Photo editing software an asset. -Verbal and written language knowledge of the Cree language an asset.
