Summary

Position Summary: The Network Engineer's role is to ensure the stability, security, and integrity of all network related equipment and technologies. The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communications infrastructure. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end user training where required. The Information Technology department supports all centralized computing, networking and technical support on the Durango Campus. The IT department consists of 6 teams and 30 staff. The Network Engineer is a member of the 3-person Networking and Infrastructure Team reporting to the Manager of Networking and Infrastructure. Job Description: Essential Functions and Responsibilities: * Design, deploy, and administer the college network environment consisting of network switches, routers, firewalls, wireless networks, Data Center equipment and other network related hardware * Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes * Monitor network performance and provide diagnosis and resolution of network system problems * Collaborate with executive management and department leaders to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs * Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records that reflect current configurations and environment * Ensure reliability for all wired and wireless network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, other network appliances and end user devices * Develop, implement and maintain documented policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage, and disaster recovery * Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry * Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information * Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports * Oversee new installations and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades * Respond to security incidents in a professional and timely manner. Works as part of the incident response team * Participate in training to stay abreast of relevant network and network security technology * Participate in staff meetings, technical work sessions, user/technical groups and presentations * Communicate with the Manager on a regular basis to review and plan projects and support cases, provide technical consultation and summarize completed work * Adhere to change management policy and procedure before making impactful changes to the network * Mentor and assist junior team members as appropriate * Perform other duties as assigned Required Education, Specialized Skills and Experience: * Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline * Four or more years of professional experience in the Information Systems field, including providing enerprise level network support can be substituted for the bachelor's degree * Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices * Experience with Cisco IOS and/or Aruba AOS/CX * Experience configuring and maintaining enterprise wireless networks, Aruba Central preferred * Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment * Ability to work effectively with other staff members and users. * Experience developing and maintaining up-to-date procedural and configuration documentation Preferred Education, Specialized Skills and Experience: * Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, computer information systems, information management, or related discipline * Experience with advanced engineering and support services of a campus data network environment consisting of data center Aruba switching, NGFW solutions, micro segmentation, VPN, NAT/PAT, and BGP configuration * Proficient with packet capture and network performance analysis * Experience with Cisco UCCX, Teams, or similar VoIP system * Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy, Domain Controllers and related DHCP and DNS IP provisioning * Experience with installation and maintenance of Linux based applications running on Linux based operating systems * Experience with Network Security Incident response and monitoring * Experience with Aruba switching and wireless * Experience with SD-WAN solutions * Expert knowledge in IP configuration, OSPF/EIGRP static and dynamic routing, link aggregation, and troubleshooting Work Environment: * Typical office environment, also working in multiple Telco room locations all over campus * Will work extended hours, evenings and weekends to meet project deadlines or other technical responsibilities * Will be on call * Not a remote/telecommute position Physical Demands: * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard reach, stoop kneel to install network and telecommunications equipment * Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work * Working in confined spaces (Training Required) * Light to moderate lifting is required Travel: Less than 5% is expected for this position. Travel may include attending conferences, training and remote site support. FLSA Status/ Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/ and Salary Range: * Exempt * Full Time. * Permanent * Full Year * 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday, occasional work outside of these hours to meet project deadlines/cutovers Compensation The salary range is $70,000 to $77,500, per year for this part-time position, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
