Summary: The Network Engineer is the IS&S network support team member assigned to schools and administrative sites to handle the installation, administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networking technology. This person supports the CMS Wide Area Network (WAN), the school Local Area Network (LAN), routers, switches, wireless access points (APs), and the site data closets.
Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)
For All Assigned Schools/administrative Sites
Installation/maintenance/upgrading of access points (APs)
Installation/maintenance/upgrading of switches and routers
Proactive Support and Management of Networks using Network Management tools
Maintenance of data closet to adhere to departmental standards
Projects (software, hardware, firmware updates)
Second-level support (after IS&S System Engineer or Network System Engineer level 1)
Troubleshooting, root cause analysis
Documentation - "how to" guides, required ticket system information, site configurations, other documentation as assigned/requested
Performs other duties as assigned
Education And Experience
Minimum
Associate degree in Computer Science, Networking or related field and
5 years of experience in network and workstation/device management.
Desired
Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Networking, or related field and 5 years of experience in network and workstation/device management.
Licensing / Certification Requirements
CompTIA - Network or Cisco CCENT (Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician) or the ability to obtain within 6 Months
Licensing/Certification Preferences
CompTIA Network+ Certification
Cisco CCT (Cisco Certified Technician)
Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
