POSITION
One Natural Resources Technician (Seasonal Worker, Full-time, 40 hours/week) position is available with the Colorado State University (CSU) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position will provide support to the natural resources program at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA), Texas. This position is intended to provide successful applicants with exposure to careers in military lands management and natural resources work experience. The technician will contribute to environmental management efforts at JBSA while learning about the regulatory framework and importance of managing natural resources on Department of Defense lands. Successful applicants will gain entry-level experience on a variety of natural resource and wildlife management projects under mentorship with natural resource managers at JBSA. Military affiliation is not required to apply for this position.

Position Duty Station: Joint Base San Antonio, Texas
Joint Base San Antonio is a 45,704-acre United States military installation that is located near the City of San Antonio, Texas. This installation is composed of four geographically separated areas, and this position will take place primarily on JBSA-Camp Bullis, which is the largest separated area found just north of San Antonio. JBSA is home to the 502 Air Base Wing, which is tasked with providing support for all personnel and units stationed at JBSA. They are also tasked with managing the installation’s natural resources, which includes over 22,350 acres of forests, and 144 acres of wetlands. Key areas of focus for the JBSA natural resources program include threatened and endangered species management, invasive species management, and outdoor recreation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The Natural Resources Technician will provide support to the JBSA’s Natural Resources Manager on a variety of natural resources and environmental management projects. These projects will include removing invasive plant species, feral hog trapping/removal, native species planting/seeding, modification of habitat, creation of demonstration sites to include landscaping and best management practices showcase areas, removing hunting stands, and conducting site surveys and gathering data for biological assessments. Technicians may also be tasked with public outreach efforts and may assist with the installation hunting program. Once the technician is hired, safety training for operating UTVs and ATVs will be provided. A majority of the work will be conducted outdoors, and will entail either working alongside other technicians/managers and/or independently, as necessary. All necessary personal protective equipment will be provided.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Must be physically capable of working independently in remote outdoor locations under varying weather conditions. Field activities will include using hand tools for vegetation management and maintenance, and conducting field surveys. These actions will require frequent walking, lifting, pulling, and kneeling.
· Must have, or be pursuing, a degree in a natural resources-, environmental compliance-, or ecosystem science-related field.
· Must have experience using basic hand tools (e.g.; shears, loppers, hammers, drills).
· Must have some experience with plant and wildlife identification.
· Must be comfortable working alongside hunting and/or lethal control practices for invasive species management.
· Must have a valid driver’s license for operating federal vehicles, including cars and UTVs.
· Must be able to pass a federal background investigation to obtain a Department of Defense Installation Access Pass.
· The successful candidate must demonstrate U.S. employment eligibility; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
· B.S. in a natural resources-, environmental compliance-, or ecosystem science-related field.
· Experience driving ATVs or UTVs.
· Experience with hunting programs.
· Familiar with local plant and wildlife species identification.
PAY RATE
Pay rate is $16/hour and the work period will not exceed 145 working days.
