General Summary
The Mortgage Operations Manager leads the Credit Union’s home loan fulfillment team and functional groups, including processing, underwriting and closing.
Key Essential Responsibilities:
Oversees all mortgage and home equity lending operations staff (underwriters, processors and closers). Motivates, coaches, and trains all operations staff to ensure that team members meet all key performance metrics and monthly production goals, cycle times, and member satisfaction expectations.
Evaluates and recommends the appropriate staffing needs of the department. Recruits, interviews and recommends qualified personnel. Ensures that all employee performance appraisals are completed and administered in a timely manner, including goal setting, providing constructive feedback in a professional manner and developing a career path for each individual. Recommend, document and administer employee counseling and disciplinary actions in coordination with Human Resources.
Effectively manages loan pipeline and workflow to ensure home loan applications are processed, underwritten and closed in an efficient and compliant manner.
Ensures that staff follows all internal policies and 3 rd party investor requirements (loan product guidelines/UW policies/delivery processes). Conducts meetings with employees to review production and changes to policies and procedures.
Ensures that all loan files are delivered to each investor in a timely manner (based on investor requirements). Manages all pre- and post-document file review to ensure accuracy, compliance with policies and procedures and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Underwrites home loan applications, generate mortgage closing documents, board and fund loans as necessary.
Assists in managing relationships with various mortgage vendors: credit reporting agency, mortgage insurance companies, attorneys and any various other vendors.
Promotes and maintains a positive work atmosphere by communicating in a manner consistent with professional standards to work effectively with members, co-workers, management and vendors.
Keeps abreast of industry developments including, but not limited to changes in regulations and technology.
Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures and Banking/Credit Union Regulations.
Performs additional duties as required.
Essential Skills, Knowledge And Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred. Will consider experience in lieu of degree.
A minimum of 5 years’ management/leadership experience in mortgage lending.
Extensive knowledge of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and FHA/VA loan programs and residential lending underwriting/processing/closing policies and procedures. Understands basic mortgage banking capital markets guidelines (loan pricing and rate lock) and ensures that loan files are saleable and meet investor guidelines.
Must be able to successfully complete the registration process as a mortgage loan originator (MLO) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS). The ability to annually renew and maintain registration throughout employment.
Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills with a high attention to detail and a sense of urgency. Team oriented, adaptable, dependable with a strong work ethic.
Must be willing to continue professional development through training, seminars and membership in professional associations as applicable.
Ability to travel up to 25%.
Advanced-level computer skills in Mortgage Loan Origination Systems and Microsoft Office.
