Summary

Come Innovate Motion with us! Johnson Electric is excited to announce that we are now recruiting for a Electromagnetic & Mechanical Modeling Engineer at our Vandalia, OH facility. This is a 100% onsite position and relocation assistance is provided. You are an ambitious and highly motivated hands-on collaborative engineer with a grounding in physics and a preference for the analytical aspects of engineering including the development of mathematical models for closed form solutions and the use of numerical methods in simulation to guide the engineering development of new products. You find yourself at home inside the simulation environment such as ANSYS but are equally capable of spending time experimentally validating your models in the lab. You are well versed in a wide variety of modeling techniques in fields including electromagnetics, static and dynamic mechanics, thermal, fluids, and multi-physics. When existing tools are not helpful you don’t shy away from tackling problems directly with python, MATLAB, or similar. Your role is pivotal in evaluating new technologies for incorporation into product design, working in close collaboration with the other members of the R&D team to perform critical analyses on design concepts. Key to your responsibilities are not only analytics but the interpretation of results in guiding the direction of the development efforts. Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive and highly technical evaluations of emerging technologies, leveraging advanced tools such as design software, simulation tools, and advanced mathematics. Perform intricate CFD and FEA simulations to validate design concepts and predict performance outcomes. Collaborate with the R&D team to refine design concepts based on analytical insights, ensuring alignment with product objectives. Engage with the model shop and laboratory environments to gather empirical data, correlating it with analytical results to validate simulations. Provide strategic design direction and innovative solutions in response to analytical findings, particularly when concepts do not meet performance expectations. Translate complex mathematical results and principles into actionable design applications, effectively communicating these to both internal teams and external stakeholders. Foster a design philosophy grounded in mathematical rigor, complemented by empirical data to ensure real-world applicability and reliability. Maintain a deep understanding of our products and manufacturing processes/capabilities to provide appropriate design guidance carefully balancing the existing and the new. Assist in the development and maintain an in depth understanding of the patent landscape surrounding the applications supported including the patents of our customer and their competitors and suggest innovative ways our products can help differentiate our customers from their competitors. Domestic and international travel: 5% Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or a related field with 5+ years of applicable experience or a graduate degree in the same fields with 3+ years of applicable experience. Experience in the ANSYS environment (Fluent and Maxwell) and proficiency in conducting accurate and relevant simulations. Proficiency in CAD software (Solidworks or Solid Edge Preferred) Experience in constructing custom analytical methods and models in python, MATLAB, or similar. Demonstrated ability to synthesize analytical results into practical design solutions. Proven track record of working effectively as an integral member of R&D teams and providing leadership in technological evaluations. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to articulate deeply technical concepts to diverse audiences including customers, non-technical leadership, and operations. A hands-on approach to engineering, with experience in gathering and analyzing empirical data to inform design decisions. Advanced working knowledge of some topics outside your primary discipline including the science and engineering fields (physics, chemistry, mechanical design, electronics, firmware, manufacturing). A proven track record of solving complex technical problems with empathy, creativity, and technical prowess. The courage to challenge the status quo and advocate for groundbreaking solutions that redefine industry standards. Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong sense of urgency, a high say/do ratio, and naturally curious.
