Company Overview:

At Tyndall Engineering & Design we are a locally owned and operated engineering firm with a strong track record in structural and civil engineering throughout North and South Carolina. We specialize in commercial building projects and are seeking a licensed mid-level Structural Engineer to join our Raleigh office.


Position Summary:

The Associate Structural Engineer will work closely with senior staff to conduct structural analysis and design for commercial buildings, perform site inspections, and produce construction documentation. This position requires a PE license, 5 years of professional structural engineering experience, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analysis and design for commercial buildings using steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.
  • Conduct site inspections and structural observations for both existing structures and active construction sites.
  • Produce technical reports, sketches, and construction documents in AutoCAD.
  • Coordinate design with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Perform and review structural calculations in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Use CAD software to prepare, revise, and update detailed construction drawings.
  • Manage and document field investigations, site visits, and repair design development.
  • Provide technical input throughout design development and construction phases.
  • Assist in business development and client communication as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Active PE license (required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a strong focus on commercial projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D), Microsoft Office, and structural analysis tools (e.g., ForteWeb, BeamChek, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid NC driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with structural inspections and forensic investigations.
  • Familiarity with Revit or other BIM platforms.
  • Ability to market and represent firm services in the field.
