Summary

Title: Manager, Purchasing (Pharmacy) Location: Hybrid (Costa Mesa) Department: Pharmacy Administration Status: Full Time Shift: Exempt Pay Range*: $125,008 - $187,512/yr The Pharmacy Purchasing Manager will be responsible for the procurement, distribution, and control of medications across MemorialCare. The Pharmacy Purchasing Manager is responsible for optimizing pharmaceutical inventory management at the centralized pharmaceutical warehouse(s) while minimizing the impact of drug shortages across the enterprise. The Pharmacy Purchasing Manager collaborates with the Executive Director of Pharmacy Services, and other Pharmacy Buyers to implement purchasing initiatives and/ or contracts. This position collaborates with other departments at various Health System locations. The Pharmacy Purchasing Manager is responsible for identifying, evaluating, implementing, and monitoring opportunities to reduce expenses through contract and inventory management. The Pharmacy Purchasing Manager develops relationships with vendors to assist with drug procurement and pricing. The Pharmacy Purchasing Manager is also responsible for ensuring that implementation, compliance, and financial benefits of contracts are achieved. Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Briefly describe the major responsibilities and functions of this position. * Pharmaceutical Procurement: * Responsible for day-to-day management of pharmacy buyers engaging in procurement of pharmaceuticals and related items required by pharmacy departments across the enterprise. * Ensure that all pharmaceutical purchasing is conducted in an efficient and accurate manner and is aligned with contractual and strategic pharmacy purchasing initiatives. * Serve as a primary pharmacy contact with key pharmaceutical vendor representatives. * Inventory Management: o Accountable for the day-to-day management of inventory at central pharmacy warehouse, including any automation technology o Collaborate with warehouse staff and enterprise pharmacy leaders and staff to coordinate intra-hospital and/or intra-pharmacy distribution of pharmaceuticals and supplies * Drug Shortage Mitigation: * At the direction of system pharmacy leadership, assist in the development of a comprehensive systemwide drug shortage mitigation program * Identify and evaluate alternative sources of pharmaceuticals and related supplies and communicate with key stakeholders during drug shortages to assist with acquisition of alternative pharmaceuticals * Regulatory: * Understand all regulatory requirements related to the 340B drug purchasing program and ensure compliance with the 340B drug purchasing program * Understand and ensure adherence to DEA, DSCSA, and California Board of Pharmacy regulations related to pharmaceutical procurement * Ensure all accounting and record keeping activities related to procurement are completed in an accurate and compliant fashion. * Expense Reduction / Pharmacy Savings: * Collaborate with system and campus pharmacy leaderships to execute on key expense reduction and savings initiatives related to pharmaceuticals * Other duties as assigned * Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements Qualifications/Work Experience: * Minimum 3 years of experience as a buyer in a hospital pharmacy setting (required) * Minimum 1 year of experience as a manager, lead buyer, or equivalent (required) * Minimum 2 years of experience with inventory management strategies and drug shortages mitigation (preferred) * Experience 340B Federal Drug Pricing Program (preferred) * Experience with Drug Supply Chain and Security Act (DSCSA) (preferred) * Strong communication and collaboration skills with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment Education/Licensure/Certification: * Active Pharmacy Technician license in state of CA (required)
