Job Summary

Incumbents in this position are responsible for participating in the installation and repair of water meters and services. This position is assigned to pay grade G14.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists with large water meters, testing, repairs, and replacements as needed.
  • Verifies line sizes and line splits.
  • Install and program Automated Meter Reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) devices in accordance with company procedures.
  • Make repairs to service lines, meters, and related equipment.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and repair or replace meters and AMR/AMI Devices as needed.
  • Works independently and assists other technicians as directed.
  • Provides accurate and detailed information entered into the work order system as requested.
  • Operates and maintains an assigned truck safely and per CFPUA's SOP.
  • Sets up and maintains a safe work zone per CFPUA's SOP.
  • Performs rotating scheduled 24/7 emergency on-call work.
  • Pulls and resets meters.
  • Attends regular information and training meetings.
  • Responds to water system emergencies.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Education, Experience, And Other Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) months of general work experience in a role using hand/power tools is required. Work experience as a meter technician, meter reader or plumber is preferred.
  • Has basic computer skills.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina driver's license.
