Summary
The position will perform meaningful work alongside metallurgists, talented engineers, and operations leaders in the precision metallurgy and heat treatment space while gaining insight into Bodycote’s culture and business philosophy. Participation includes an approximate 24-month rotational program within engineering and operations. Using the candidate’s metallurgy education and engineering base as a foundation, this position will utilize critical thinking and problem-solving to execute high-impact business projects, work on production and processing challenges, and engineer metallurgy solutions. This program is designed to kick-start your career path and provide an opportunity to gain both a wide perspective and a depth of technical knowledge, all while contributing meaningfully to Bodycote’s business success. Assignments can span multiple locations and a mix of different functional areas such as Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Testing Laboratory, Quality, Customer Project Management, and Production Operations. Upon successful completion of the rotational assignments, based on the individual’s performance and interest, and Bodycote’s business needs, this program will facilitate the employees’ transition into exciting career opportunities and further growth within Bodycote. Flexibility to relocate is a key aspect of this role, as it aligns with our mission to match talent with exciting opportunities across the organization. Essential Job Functions (Duties And Responsibilities)
The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following:
- Understand the overall business of the company, including our brand, culture, metallurgical processes, technical solutions, associated industry standards, and customer requirements for quality and service.
- Rotate through sites within the Automotive and General Industrial Divisions with a focus on plant operations, process development, and metallurgical analysis & testing.
- Accept designated, business-focus projects to research, propose ideas and solutions, and present to leadership team(s).
- Learn and become proficient in heat treatment processes and equipment functionality and control, metallurgical sample preparation, and evaluation.
- Interpret specifications and requirements as they relate to heat treatment, testing, and processing requirements.
- Function as a member of the management team, and participate in meetings, discussions, and technical reviews as needed.
- Perform other tasks designated by supervisor and/or mentor.
- This position will interact with customer’s inventory and industrial equipment, and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent injuries or damage.

- Education: Must possess metallurgy knowledge obtained through formal university or college training or a combination of training and experience. Metallurgical or material science degree required.
- This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
- Willingness and ability to relocate to other locations within Bodycote after completing the initial assignment. Relocation allows for career growth, exposure to diverse projects, and professional development opportunities within our organization.
- Task-oriented, organized, and conscientious. Should have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, positive, and personable, and have the ability to develop relationships.
- Demonstrate clear, professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interface with management and all levels, both internally and with customers.
- Must be proficient in EXCEL, Word, and Outlook and comfortable working with EXCEL to create, track, and analyze data.
- Must be capable of performing analysis of data and technical information, writing reports, and general procedures for heat treatment in accordance with business needs.
- Ability to travel up to 70%, to plants within the US, CA, and MX.
Physical & Mental Demands: These consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Must be able to work in a standing and sitting position for extended periods of time (at desk, while driving, and/or on airplane travel) in an office/industrial environment.
- Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
- Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, humidity, etc.
- Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
- Ability to hear in person and via phone.
