Location: Stockton-San Joaquin County
Hours: Monday-Friday, 1:00-7:00pm, (Hours May Vary) includes evenings, weekends and/or holidays
Job Summary
The Merlo Community Program (MCP) Recreational Program Leader will play a pivotal role in planning, creating, and implementing a safe, engaging, and enriching environment for students. You will be responsible for leading a group of students through a variety of recreational and educational activities which support student's learning as well as promote self-esteem, health and wellness and outdoor equity.
Essential Functions
Program Planning and Implementation:
- Organize, plan, and implement diverse programs including sports, crafts, STEM activities, and games in indoor and outdoor settings.
- Coordinate and schedule instructional classes with community partners and business owners.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of special events and services.
- Contribute to the implementation of the sports program by assisting with organization, coordination, and supervision.
Community Engagement And Relationship Management
- Assist with planning, execution, and management of community engagement initiatives and grant-funded projects.
- Serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders, representing the organization in collaborative and professional meetings.
- Maintain effective communication and harmonious relationships with the public, participants, and associates.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to develop community programs and initiatives that address identified needs.
Safety, Maintenance, And Reporting
- Ensure safety precautions are observed during all activities by informing participants of and enforcing established rules.
- Care for and maintain equipment and facilities.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit required records such as attendance, program details, participation numbers, and fees collected.
- Capture accurate records of grant-related activities and prepare reports for stakeholders.
Additional Information
May require evening and weekend work depending on program schedules and special events.
CPR and First Aid certification preferred or required within a specified period after hiring.
Job Qualifications
- Minimum Knowledge/Experience/Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must have at least 48 semester college units or successful completion of the Paraeducator exam
- TB test clearance
- Must pass DOJ/FBI criminal background check
- Must be punctual and reliable
- Experience in planning and leading recreational activities.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures in recreational settings.
- Ability to analyze data and assess program effectiveness.
- Ability to manage and maintain equipment and facilities.
- Flexibility to work in various indoor and outdoor environments.

- Must be able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Must be able to communicate openly in a professional manner with staff, students, parents, and community partners.
License/Certification/Clearance
- Sexual Harassment Training Certificate *required
- Mandated Reporter Training Certificate *required
- First aid and CPR Certification *preferred
Physical Demands
- Must have sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities including the ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Must be fit for frequent bending and standing.
