Job Description

Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working closely with other key stakeholders, the Mechanical Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers in the definition, development, design, analysis, and documentation of mechanical systems and components critical to Global Laser Enrichment’s (GLE, the “Company”) first-of-a-kind uranium enrichment technology development program.

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing mechanical design activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements, and driving continuous improvement in mechanical engineering processes. This role will play a key part in the development of enrichment cascade equipment, gas handling and storage systems (GHS) hardware, support systems, and other ancillary equipment for the Company’s technology development and demonstration project.

NOTE: This role is subject to the incumbent’s ability to hold and maintain an NRC Q-clearance, as well as their ongoing ability to maintain nuclear site access.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of mechanical engineers and designers, providing technical direction, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and implement design solutions to advance enrichment technology for mechanical process equipment and GHS equipment.
  • Oversee and guide 3D CAD modeling efforts for the development of uranium enrichment separators and related subsystems.
  • Ensure the timely production and review of 2D drawings for component manufacturing and system assembly.
  • Analyze prototypes, approve final designs, and ensure thorough documentation.
  • Lead conceptual design efforts and coordinate cross-functional design and development tasks.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for CAD model management, part libraries, and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams, oversee supplier engagement, and support mechanical assembly and commissioning activities.
  • Ensure adherence to ASME Y14.5 geometric dimensioning & tolerancing standards.
  • Conduct and lead design reviews, ensuring alignment with technical, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the mechanical design function.
  • Support risk assessments and mitigation strategies for design-related challenges.
  • Ensure all designs meet company quality standards, engineering principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide input in the development of engineering budgets and schedules for projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Environmental Health And Safety (EHS)

  • Adhere to the Company’s EHS policies, procedures and regulatory requirements relating to the work being undertaken to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.
  • Contribute to the GLE safety culture by proactively applying EHS principles and best practices to the planning, execution, and conclusion of all activities.

Qualifications, Education, And Experience

  • Active DOE/NRC Q-clearance or equivalent (DOD Top Secret).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, NX, Pro-E) and experience generating 2D manufacturing drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (ASME Y14.5).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and drive results.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work extended hours on occasion and travel as required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Advance Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with structural and thermal finite element analysis (ANSYS or COMSOL).
  • Knowledge of vacuum technology, pressure systems, and high-precision manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience working in classified and/or highly regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering principles and lifecycle development processes.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and uncertainty, providing clear direction and solutions.
