Our Property & Buildings Team is seeking a Full-Time Mechanical Engineering Co-op to work out of our Philadelphia, PA office. This temporary position is seeking individuals currently enrolled in an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program through Drexel University.
This co-op is anticipated to take place during the Fall and Winter 2025-2026 semesters. The anticipated dates of this co-op are September 22nd - March 27th as part of the Drexel Co-op Program. Start dates may be flexible.
Your Impact
Students will have the opportunity to gain experience in projects within the infrastructure, commercial, higher education, science & technology and healthcare sectors. WSP's projects include both renovation and new construction, both locally and nationally. Successful candidates will participate in all aspects of mechanical engineering and design as it relates to the building and construction industry. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain hands-on experience in the field of engineering. Throughout the cycle, the Co-op should expect to:
* Support a variety of engineering tasks with the goal to develop technical, social, and ethical skills.
* Learn basic principles of Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering.
* Become familiar with reading and interpreting building plans and mechanical diagrams.
* Assist with project research, field work, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
* Learn Autodesk Revit to model mechanical airside and hydronic components and systems.
* Collaborate with senior engineers to develop engineering drawings and specifications.
* Travel to job sites to survey and review existing buildings and construction progress through various stages of a project.
* Become familiar with various engineering standards and codes.
* Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
* Complete training on assigned tasks.
* Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
* Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
* Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
* Please note that there is no relocation or housing assistance associated with this co-op.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
* Actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related Undergraduate program through Drexel University with an anticipated graduation date of March 2026 or later.
* Must be 18 or older.
* Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
* Capable of taking direction from leadership, mentors, and managers to executive projects.
* Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
* Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
* Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
* Authorization to work in the United States at the start of the co-op.
Preferred Qualifications
* Actively enrolled in an accredited Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or related Masters/PhD program through Drexel University with an anticipated graduation date of March 2026 or later.
* Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit.
* Prior co-op and/or internship and leadership involvement on campus.
