Job Overview: The Mechanical Development Engineer will work out of Ingersoll Rand's R&D facility with a team of engineers, and technicians to innovate, improve, develop, troubleshoot and qualify new products. This position has intermediate responsibility for mechanical and hydraulic design of the Milton Roy product line in support of the business's strategic objectives. This position is responsible for the full product development life cycle for mechanical/hydraulic solutions from conceptual design to validation testing and final solution implementation. Responsibilities: * Own mechanical/hydraulic design responsibility on systems or portions of projects that relate to new innovations, safety, quality, cost reductions, and manufacturability. * Ensure mechanical/hydraulic design/layout is compliant with required regulatory standards, and appropriate third party and internal requirements. * Design and develop samples, prototypes, and evaluate models for performance. * Specify and execute test plans. Analyze and prepare reports documenting experimental method, measurements, and results. * Develop curves of mechanical/hydraulic data and other necessary technical data or documentation. * Estimate and manage product/component cost standards throughout the development process. * Select components and suppliers in cooperation with the supply chain team. * Participate in pre-production runs of the mechanical/hydraulic products in close cooperation with project managers, product maintenance engineering and the production company. * Generate ideas for future product development and product cost reduction activities. * Maintain excellent communication with affected internal and external departments, especially project, product, and production managers. * Teach and mentor other engineers. * Apply technologies and technical expertise to enhance product performance and value. * Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. * Travel internationally and domestically. Requirements: * BS degree in mechanical engineering or technology or equivalent demonstrated experience in a technical field of study. * 3+ years of mechanical/hydraulic design and development experience in pumps, motors, controls or equivalent industry. * Experience in design testing and analysis. * Experience using computers, office software, simulation software, and lab equipment for analysis of designs. * Ability to take responsibility for technical decisions on the product. * Good interpersonal and communication skills. * Must maintain a valid passport to support travel of 5 to 10 percent annually. Preferred: * Experience with positive displacement, split case, end suction, ANSI, and other applicable pump designs. * Proven ability to function effectively in a cross-functional environment. * Ability to train internal or external customers on technical matters. * Strong business acumen with application, customer, and market experience.
