Job Description

If you had a bit more budget to buy better test and prototype equipment, how would your job change?

Short term, you'd have a bit of fun learning new tools and equipment.

Long term? You’d design better products - faster, smarter, with fewer trips back to the drawing board. Products you’d be proud to put your name on.

That's what you’ll get here.

A Bit About The Tech And The Job...

You'll work across the full product lifecycle - from concept, design and analysis, through prototyping, testing, and production - to create next-generation high power density motor control systems. Think DC power distribution and regulator products designed for demanding, lightweight, mobile applications like UAVs and drones.

This role isn’t about tweaking legacy products - it’s about building brand new systems, often from a clean sheet of paper. You’ll work closely with electrical, firmware, and systems teams to innovate and push the limits of what's possible.

If you enjoy FEA, CFD, thermal, or vibration analysis, there's scope to apply that here. Simulation-led design plays a big part in getting products right before hitting the lab bench - and you'll have the tools (and budget) to do it properly.

A Bit About The Industry...

Off-the-shelf components can’t keep up. Most aren’t designed for the complex systems these drones need - motors, sensors, cameras, ECUs - all fighting for power, thermal headroom, and reliability.

You’ll help design products that are modular, customisable, and engineered to perform — not just good enough, but the best in the market.

A Bit About The Company...

You'll be joining a growing, profitable business of ~30 people. Their value proposition is simple: build the best products available, and their customers will come back for more — and they are.

The business was built by engineers, for engineers. So while the work is technically challenging, the culture values balance: Get your 8 hours done, then down tools. Flexible hours and occasional work-from-home days are standard.

About You...

You'll likely have:

  • A background in mechanical design for high power density, high-reliability products (motors, power electronics, robotics, aerospace, automotive, etc.)
  • Experience across the full design lifecycle - from early concepts through prototype builds, validation testing, and into production volumes (hundreds to low thousands)
  • Practical experience with FEA, CFD, and vibration analysis to inform robust designs
  • An understanding of thermal management and mechanical stresses in compact, high-performance electromechanical systems
  • A hands-on, pragmatic mindset — someone who loves seeing a design through to a finished, tested product

Bonus points if you’ve worked in regulated industries (automotive, aerospace, defence, medical) where rigour and quality matter.
