Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Summary:
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be a key member of our lean and dynamic R&D team, responsible for the design, development, and analysis of mechanical components and systems for our innovative product line. This role will involve taking concepts from ideation through detailed design, prototyping support, and collaboration with electronics, testing, and production teams. The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver with a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, excellent CAD skills, and a passion for creating high-quality, manufacturable products.
Responsibilities:
Conceptualisation and Design:
- Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute to the development of new product concepts and mechanical solutions.
- Translate product requirements and specifications into detailed mechanical designs.
- Develop innovative and efficient mechanical designs considering functionality, aesthetics, cost, and manufacturability.
Detailed Design and Modeling:
- Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks (or other relevant CAD software).
- Develop and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for mechanical components.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure proper fit and function of assemblies.
Engineering Analysis and Simulation:
- Conduct stress analysis, thermal analysis, and other simulations to validate designs and ensure structural integrity and performance.
- Analyze simulation results and propose design modifications as needed.
Prototyping and Testing Support:
- Collaborate with the Prototyping & Manufacturing Liaison to oversee the fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
- Participate in the testing of prototypes, providing insights into mechanical performance and identifying areas for improvement.
- Contribute to the analysis of test results and implement design modifications based on findings.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Electronics Engineer and Embedded Systems Engineer to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electronic components.
- Collaborate with the Testing & Validation Engineer to develop effective test plans and address mechanical issues identified during testing.
- Communicate effectively with the Production team during the New Product Introduction (NPI) process to ensure Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
- Provide clear and concise technical documentation, including design specifications, drawings, and reports.
Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest mechanical engineering trends, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- 3-4 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in home appliances, lighting etc.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and material science.
- Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, machining and extrusion).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) software.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Experience with design for Six Sigma or other quality methodologies.
