Mechanical Design Engineer- Advanced Development

JOB PURPOSE

As AD (Advanced Development) Engineer you will assist in Advanced Development (AD) projects, learning valuable expertise in executing complex technical tasks by following TRL (Technology Readiness Level) process. Utilizing your technical knowledge and skills, you will contribute to successful closure of innovative Advanced development/ Technology development projects leading to USP (unique selling propositions) and/or IP development for the organization.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead AD projects: Utilize a structured TRL-based process from TRL1 to TRL6 to design and develop consumer products across various categories, ensuring systematic progress from concept to prototype while maturing design theoretically, creating POC and validating them, ensuring concept meets both technical specifications and consumer expectations effectively. Wherever required, interaction with external partners to enable technology development.

Developing Functional Proof at Component and System Levels: assisting in engineering calculations and physics-based simulations, using predictive engineering practices to ensure product components and systems meet functional requirements and reliability standards

Identify and Validate USPs (unique selling propositions) and Claims: Help teams to define unique selling propositions (USPs) and claims that differentiate products in the market. Utilize tools like DFMEA, FEA, functional analysis, prototyping, and testing to validate product concepts.

Create Intellectual property: Create Intellectual property of the innovative projects executed by considering overall long term and short-term business strategy for the idea under consideration.

B.E./ B.Tech. in Mechanical / Mechatronics

PREFERRED/ ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT

  • Ability to use calculations and statistical analysis tools to make data base driven decisions.
  • Ability to use CAD software (preferably Creo) for component and system modelling and willingness to learn advanced features
  • Ability to create and present project reports

INTERNAL / EXTERNAL INTERFACE

Internal – Engineering Design team, PRC, tooling, and product development team, CoE (Centre of Excellence) teams

External –End consumer

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

AND IT’S LEVEL

Technical Skills:

  • Strong engineering fundamentals (Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat & Mass Transfer, Motors, Fluid Transfer) to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Ability to do calculations for engineering analyses and data analyses.
  • Understanding of Principles of Material Sciences (metallurgy, polymer science) and coating technologies in product development.
  • Knowledge of various prototyping processes and their technical benefits/ tradeoffs.

Process Skills:

  • Awareness of DFMEA, functional analysis, and fundamentals of GDT and stack up analysis.
  • Basic understanding of IP process

Software Skills:

  • Basic understanding of using CAD tools such as Creo, and basics of Creo Simulate for linear static and CFD simulations.

Desirable competencies

  • Basics of integration of electronics, electromagnetic, and electrical systems fundamentals into product designs.
  • Exposure to concepts of V model, DMADV, DMAIC, and Design Thinking to solve engineering challenges.
