Summary

Shop Mechanic III Position Summary

The primary responsibility of the Shop Mechanic III is to conduct routine maintenance, service and repair of all Sterling Equipment Leasing (SEL) equipment including, but not limited to, pick-up trucks, excavators, wheel-loaders, compact track loaders, semi-trucks, trailers, diesel pick-up trucks, and various equipment attachments and accessories at a designated SEL facility.

Essential Functions Of Shop Mechanic III

  • Collaborate with the Fleet Maintenance Manager to ensure timely, effective and efficient service.
  • Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions to stay in line with rapidly changing technology.
  • Complete required Preventative Maintenance according to the equipment's PM Schedule.
  • Maintain up-to-date records including supplies, parts and tool inventory, equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Maintain working area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Perform extensive fabrication on miscellaneous equipment, to reduce time for broken equipment.
  • Provide diagnosis of how to better maximize the shops capabilities and identify trends.
  • Complete quality-controlled inspections on equipment to ensure all aspects of repairs are performed in a timely manner and with minimal to no failures.
  • Identify, diagnose, and repairs, complex malfunctions on fleet equipment.
  • Uses specialized diagnostic and power tools to complete skilled maintenance tasks.
  • Repairs damaged frames and repairs and replaces differentials, drive shafts, front end, and steering mechanisms.
  • Repair, rebuild, or replace powertrain components, such as diesel or gas engines and transmissions.
  • Repair and replace major components on heavy machinery
  • Ensure timely turn around on specialized equipment, to maximize company utilization.
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment and support for the Sterling vision, mission, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs work in a safe manner in compliance with the job safety analysis (JSA), and other work instructions and policies as outlined by management for the use of hand and power tools, and saws.
  • In accordance with policies and procedures, wear the designated personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
  • Maintain a clean workspace that is clear of debris and clutter following the guidelines outlined in the 5S visual factory standard, end of shift cleaning protocols, and tool placement(s).
  • Follow all operating, cleaning, and safety procedures in the operation of company equipment and machines.
  • Shop Mechanic III is to Immediately report any safety related injury or illness and/or any machinery failure to safety and follow protocols as outlined for lockout, tagout and as outlined in the company policies and procedures.
  • Cross train within the team, and across other departments, as needed and required.
  • Administer check-in /out system of all equipment.
  • All other duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications For Shop Mechanic III

  • Minimum 6-years' experience with heavy equipment repairs (forestry preferred), to include diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
  • Class A CDL with air brake endorsement required within six months of hire preferred, but will train
  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred, but will train
  • CPR / First Aid Certification preferred, but will train
  • Must possess valid Driver's License and clean driving record
  • Must possess a clean DOT/MVR driving record.
  • Must possess extensive heavy-duty mechanic tools to complete job requirements.

Full-time hourly payrate $30 - $37 dependent upon experience, and qualifications.
