Konami Gaming is looking for a Mathematician III to join our team!

This position is responsible for creating mathematical models for multiple games simultaneously and researching and analyzing games from a statistical perspective. This position is responsible for understanding fundamental game design and must be able to successfully perform all requirements for a Mathematician position in addition to the requirements listed below in Major Accountabilities.

What you'll be doing:

  • Create math models and resource materials for standard and - complex game within developmental milestones, utilizing Microsoft Excel, Visual Studio (C#), and Windows based PCs.
    • Create the Math Documentation and provide relevant math data for specific math models autonomously.
    • Create a working version of the math model using Konami’s proprietary C# Math Tool for most types of games.
    • Create Excel sheets (PARs) which incorporate theoretical calculations proving out math models for regulatory approval and customer-facing information.
  • Proactively look for mathematical issues and can resolve with little to no guidance or advice.
  • Is effective at communicating math design parameters based on suggested feedback for math design iteration and can provide suggestions to achieve the overall design goal.
  • Ability to assist and mentor other mathematicians in day-to-day tasks and train newer mathematicians in the math development process
  • Works with Software Engineer to ensure accuracy of software and math model via Monte Carlo simulations and prize forces.
  • Analyze and calculate statistics for existing or new games and report findings to support Game Design team.
  • Assist 3 rd party Math Design, as needed.
  • Autonomously research gaming trends and new products through visiting casino floors, reviewing gaming journals, reading press releases, visiting gaming show(s) and field research trips.
  • Understand the minimum requirements for a math model to be approved in all required jurisdictions and ensure each math model meets regulations both internal as well as industry.
  • Able to understand the impacts of new jurisdictional regulations on the current math design process and can come up with updates to the process to comply with the new regulations.
  • Can communicate with regulators or customers to address regulation or math questions.
  • Understands Games R&D's fundamental math direction and can create a math model following the general direction as well as satisfy all given game specific directions with some guidance.
  • Generate accurate and precise mathematical documents for SQA and regulator. This includes grammar, formatting and mathematical
  • Considers the game’s play experience from the perspective of the player and designs to enhance excitement and entertainment
  • Ability to perform requested tasks with little supervision.
  • Can work with math tools development in C# and complete coding or excel projects in a timely manner.
  • Can handle creating multiple math models or other tasks by prioritizing daily tasks with last minute tasks to ensure all meet required deadlines.
  • Can effectively foresee possible deadline issues and communicate in a timely manner to allow for adjusting.
  • Can communicate to other Games R&D groups in functional job area.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What we'll want you to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics/Statistics or equivalent experience; clear understanding of statistics and probability.
  • Minimum 3-5 years related experience in gaming industry. Professional programming experience preferred.
  • Minimum professional level understanding and usage of Microsoft Office products with an emphasis on Excel.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and governmental regulations.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain gaming licensure.
  • Ability to develop expertise in slot game mechanics.
  • C# knowledge is mandatory for operation in this position.

Work Environment:

  • Full time / 40 + Hours per week. Must be flexible for overtime, including evenings, weekends and Holidays as required.
  • Must be comfortable working in a cubicle with limited working space for long hours with the ability to remain seated at the computer terminal for extended periods. Extreme repetitive motion using keyboard, mouse and telephone. Position can be high stress and extremely fast paced. Ability to handle directive, assess situations, enter into dialogue and complete tasks. Must be able to communicate verbally and write in English.
  • Position shall work primarily in an office environment. Position shall maintain a cubicle in close proximity of other cubicles and offices.
  • Business Casual with occasional professional dress required.
