EMPLOYMENT TYPE: 12 month contract; strong possibility of extension

PAY RANGE: $72-90hr. W2

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking a Materials Testing Engineer who will support the nuclear materials testing and characterization team. You will focus on materials testing, characterization, and supplier qualification for sodium cooled fast reactors. This exciting opportunity will be with our innovative nuclear energy client at their Everett laboratory.


  • Oversee and develop test programs for material performance
  • Develop test requirements, plans, specifications, and procedures for testing unique materials in complex environments, including liquid metal sodium
  • Lead large-scale cooperative projects for materials testing and development with external collaborators, partners, and suppliers
  • Conduct testing and material characterization in a laboratory environment
  • External procurements of materials, equipment, and testing services, including authoring procurement requisitions and managing supplier performance to plan
  • Engage with the design, fabrication, and operation of custom laboratory experiments



ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree ideally in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • 6+ years as a Materials Engineer with testing and characterization experience
  • Prior experience in nuclear research or industry applications is desired
  • Mechanical testing for both metallic, ceramics, and hard facing coatings
  • Proficiency in conducting mechanical testing in extreme environments and hands-on laboratory experience is required
  • Metallography and SEM-EDS experience
  • Proficiency in writing and producing technical documentation including test reports and studies
  • Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 is preferred
