Summary

Early-stage startup revolutionizing 3D nanofabrication.

Operate at the forefront of nano-optics & photonics.

Flexible benefits allowance and PTO policy.

We’ve teamed up with a revolutionary start-up who offer a novel manufacturing platform that can harness the full power of light, to achieve first-of-its-kind advancements in 3D nanofabrication. With over $20m in venture & grant funding to date, they’re now expanding the team, creating a need for a Materials Scientist to join them in Waltham, MA. They have a team of 20+ currently, with plans to scale throughout 2025, meaning it’s a great time to be joining.

This is a primarily on-site role due to the nature of the project base, but they’re very flexible with working arrangements. Unfortunately, sponsorship is not available for this position.

What will I do?

This position is integral to the development and characterization of novel materials, used to enable the business’ nanofabrication platform. This involves building techniques for synthesizing and patterning electrical conductive, or high refractive index nanomaterials into nanoporous scaffolds for 3D electronics/photonics, using multi-photon lithography. You’d specialize in inorganic nanoparticle synthesis, supporting material fabrication & metrology technique execution, as well as cross-functional collaboration with engineering, manufacturing and product functions.

What skills do I need?

  • Academic background in Chemistry, Materials Science, Nanotechnology or another relevant field.
  • Proven experience in inorganic material synthesis, nanoparticle synthesis or nanomaterial surface functionalization.
  • Knowledge of optics, photonics or electronic applications of nanomaterials.
  • Familiar with common characterization techniques, such as UV-Vis absorption, fluorescence characterization, optical microscopy etc.
  • Awareness of advanced characterization techniques, including EDS, XRD, NMR, SEM, TEM etc.
  • Understanding of experimental design fundamentals.

What do I get in return?

On top of a competitive salary in line with your experience, the business offers a flexible benefits allowance, tailored by you to ensure that you get the most out of your package. As well as that, their PTO policy is fully flexible, with regular vacation days encouraged by the wider team. They’re an embryonic start-up, offering countless opportunities for progression and continued learning, giving you visibility of day-to-day operations in a mature, inclusive environment. You’d be surrounded by a talented team, working collectively towards a pioneering advancement in the field of photonics / nano-optics!
