Materials, Processes and Testing Engineer
Position Overview
At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Materials, Processes and Testing Engineer to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
Responsibilities
This position is contingent upon contract award and funding approval of winning a program.
* Author, publish, review, and revise material specifications, process specifications, test specifications, manufacturing work instructions, standard operating procedures, test plans, and test reports.
* Select / recommend materials, processes, and test methods to inform Design, Manufacturing, Tooling, Quality, and Supply Chain decisions.
* Conduct and support material property testing at coupon, element, subcomponent, and component / full-scale levels.
* Conduct and support process development trials at coupon, element, and subcomponent levels.
* Operate and support the maintenance of manufacturing equipment and test equipment.
* Analyze material property data collected from material property databases and / or material property testing.
* Investigate existing and emerging material technologies and collaborate with material manufacturers to evaluate those technologies.
* Execute MP&T engineering tasks in support of aircraft development programs, aircraft production programs, and technology development projects.
* Participate in knowledge sharing with colleagues.
* Estimate labor and non-labor costs for executing MP&T work.
* Participate in meetings with colleagues, stakeholders (functional and program), and customers (internal and external).
* Operate Microsoft Office products, CAD software, statistical analysis tools, PLM software, SAP, and material / process modeling software
Minimum Requirements
* BS degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
* Must be a US Person
* Minimum of 5 years work experience in the aerospace industry or related field.
* Must be willing to perform hands-on manufacturing, hands-on testing tasks, and computer based tasks.
* Must have proficient written and oral communication skills.
* Must have experience using Microsoft Office applications and CAD software.
* Must be knowledgeable in the different material groups (i.e., metals, polymers, ceramics, composites).
* Must have experience analyzing material property data collected from material property databases and / or material property testing.
* Must have experience writing and reviewing material specifications, process specifications, test specifications, manufacturing work instructions, standard operating procedures, test plans, and test reports
Preferred Requirements
* Experience using a universal load frame.
* Experience using CAD software such as CATIA, Solidworks, NX to create models.
* Knowledgeable in current and emerging manufacturing processes.
* Knowledgeable in current and emerging material technologies.
* Experience operating process modeling software / tools (e.g., Raven, COMPRO).
* Experience writing research grants or supporting business capture activities.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to transport objects up to 35 pounds.
* Travel (up to 25%) to customer, supplier, and other Aurora Flight Sciences facilities.
* Ability to maneuver around equipment in test labs and on aircraft and work in a manufacturing facility supporting all elements of composite and metal manufacturing
Salary Range (Annualized USD)
* Minimum Range: $68,000.00 to $122,000.00
* Maximum Range: $84,000.00 to $150,000.00
