Description
The Business Development Executive, based in Shanghai, will provide business development and marketing support to the lawyers in Reed Smith Asia, interacting with partners and associates, and other business development and marketing resources across the firm in the Asia region and other offices around the world.
This is a hands-on role, which will include pitching, profile raising, internal and external comms and events. The role requires strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, excellent verbal and written communication skills (must be fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin) and the ability and flexibility to manage a large workload. We are therefore seeking a resourceful and dynamic candidate, who possesses excellent attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure.
The position sits within a growing and energetic firm-wide marketing team of professionals.
Essential Functions
Proposals/pitches/capability statements/presentations
- Develop tailored pitch and proposal materials for Asia offices, delivering a solid first working document to the lawyers.
- Create and maintain accounts under both Shanghai and Hong Kong entities on various bidding portals, especially for proposals from Chinese State-Owned Enterprises
- Assist with global proposals and multi-practice pitches, contributing experience and practice capabilities when requested.
- Work closely with various legal, business development and marketing professionals to develop and maintain standard practice-related presentations or materials (standard and customizable capability statements, practice group profiles, matter lists, case studies, bios etc.) specific to the Asia offices.
- Check/format of materials for client presentations and internal meetings.
Business Development
- Assist in the implementation of the Asia and Hong Kong business development plan in alignment with the strategic business plan of Reed Smith Asia.
- Work with Senior BD Executive and wider BD team in Asia and the broader Business Development community to assist with cross-selling for the Asia offices.
Media relations/internal communications/social media
- Assist with PR and branding teams on thought leadership and campaigns to help raise the profile of the Asia offices both internally and externally and to ensure coverage of successful matters and initiatives.
- Assist with blog postings, social media posts (including WeChat and LinkedIn), podcasts and other marketing platforms including Passle.
- Assist with client alert preparation and mailing business development activities within the group.
- Assist with internal communication strategies, including coordination of newsletters and firm news for new business highlights and client and matter successes.
Events
- Coordinate and execute events such as webinars, seminars, roundtables and receptions for the Hong Kong and Shanghai offices.
- Promote the Hong Kong and Shanghai office client events internally/externally, using the various available channels.
- Display the confidence to share best practice learnings with colleagues and lawyers.
Recognition and awards
- Collaborate with the firm's external consultant to coordinate co-ordinate legal directory submissions and assist partners prepare for interviews with legal directory researchers.
- Coordinate the Asia offices' submissions for other awards, eg, Asian Legal Business, China Business Law Journal and awards as necessary.
Administrative tasks
- Update and translate the Asia offices' deal database to ensure matters are accurately and promptly updated.
- Update the Greater China lawyers' bios as needed and arrange for translations into Chinese.
- Work with the central Client Intelligence team, maintain contacts and key information on the firm's CRM system.
- Update lawyer and practice group information on the firm's website and intranet.
Others
- Complete special projects as assigned, eg, working with the broader Asia Business Development team on regional projects.
- Work to ensure quality professional products, as well as delivery of all work within established time frames.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or related field preferred.
Experience: 2 years of directly relevant experience in a marketing or business development-related position, including experience in a large law firm or professional services firm. A strong business development and marketing acumen and basic legal substantive knowledge is required.
Skills: Strong oral and written communications skills with the ability to interact at various levels with confidence and with a customer service attitude; strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; must be highly organized with the ability to multi-task, manage workload and competing priorities and pay close attention to details; must be able to think critically and creatively, present ideas and views clearly and with confidence to people at all levels; must be able to demonstrate initiative, be flexible and adaptable and be a team player; must have a strong focus on customer service delivery while dealing with a variety of personalities and being sensitive to cultural differences and issues; must be effectively bilingual in English and Mandarin.
