To support our growth, we are seeking a Market Risk Analyst who is looking to bring their analytical and quantitative skills to help our company implement a world-class risk management infrastructure. This is a full time, exempt role reporting to the Head of Risk. We value camaraderie and the benefits of in-person connection. We prefer candidates to join us in a voluntary flexible hybrid work style at one of our office hubs in San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR; Portland, ME; or New York, NY. This voluntary model provides flexibility while fostering team collaboration. Exceptional remote candidates within the US will also be considered. Periodic travel may be required for training or team collaboration and to conferences and customers as required. Frequency and cadence is team dependent, but on average is 1-6 times annually. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Market Risk Analyst, you'll enhance and build quantitative tools that help measure and monitor risk across our global environmental commodities portfolios. You'll work closely with trading and operations teams to ensure risk exposure is accurately captured and modeled, while also helping to expand our capabilities as we enter new and complex markets. This is a hands-on, technical role ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic, data-driven environments. Key responsibilities include the following: * Support market & liquidity risk oversight of environmental commodities across North America (RECs), Europe (GOs), APAC (IRECs), transportation markets (e.g., LCFS, CCAs) and others (e.g. RNGs, RTCs) * Maintain and enhance risk models and tools to measure market exposure and price risk, including building curve marking and PnL reporting processes * Provide independent validation of trader marks and contribute to robust model governance * Adapt existing models and develop new ones to reflect the unique characteristics of illiquid and emerging environmental markets * Collaborate closely with trading and trade operations teams to ensure risk metrics accurately reflect portfolio positions * Use R, Python, or Excel VBA to build and maintain models; R is preferred but not required on day one * Leverage SQL and Tableau (or similar tools) to build a data infrastructure that supports company-wide risk visibility * Contribute to cash flow forecasting and working capital modeling * Serve as a key partner to the trading desk, participating in daily discussions and evolving portfolio strategies * Assist in other risk department initiatives ABOUT YOU You're a highly analytical professional with a strong foundation in market risk, financial modeling, and coding, eager to apply your skills in a mission-driven organization. You enjoy working both independently and collaboratively, and you're excited to tackle the modeling challenges that come with emerging and illiquid markets. You bring intellectual curiosity, adaptability, and a commitment to building high-quality tools that support strategic decision-making. For this role, we believe an individual with the following qualifications will have a great opportunity to be successful: * 2 + years of professional experience or graduate degree * Masters degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field is required * Possess strong quantitative, technical and data analysis skills * Has strong knowledge of finance and risk management fundamentals * Coding experience in R or Python, SQL and Excel VBA * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Must be self-motivated with excellent time management and prioritization skills * Strong computer and spreadsheet modeling skills * Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau is preferred * Familiarity in renewable energy trading markets is preferred * Professional certifications like FRM, PRM, CFA is a plus HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS Within 30 days, * Gain foundational knowledge of 3Degrees' environmental commodities portfolio and the unique characteristics of our traded markets * Learn and begin operating existing risk models and curve marking processes with supervision * Establish working relationships with key stakeholders across risk, trading, and trade operations Within 90 days, * Independently manage daily risk reports, including exposure and PnL tracking, with minimal oversight * Modify and improve existing risk models and tools based on market conditions and feedback * Understand key data pipelines and reporting structures to ensure accuracy and alignment across systems Within 6 months, * Lead development of new risk models or tools, collaborating with the Head of Risk and other stakeholders * Present clear, data-driven insights on risk drivers and portfolio trends to trading and finance teams * Expand reporting to include new environmental markets or products as the portfolio evolves Within 1 year, * Operate as a trusted, independent contributor on the risk team and a strategic partner to the trading desk * Continuously improve and maintain risk infrastructure, ensuring it scales with the company's market expansion * Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and help define best practices in risk modeling, valuation, and exposure reporting COMPENSATION & BENEFITS * Compensation: The minimum and maximum salary for this position is $100,000 to $115,000 in the US. Base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands * Benefits: This position is eligible for a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k, flexible paid time off, and more.
