Overview

Under the direction of the Mapping Supervisor, Senior Mapping Technician and Technician-A mappers, the Technician-B will train and become proficient with the company Geographic Information System (GIS) to digitally draw electric and gas maps with a high degree of accuracy.

• PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Mapping Supervisor, Senior Mapping Technician and Technician-A mappers, the Technician-B will train and become proficient with the company Geographic Information System (GIS) to digitally draw electric and gas maps with a high degree of accuracy.
• Convert data appearing on plans, maps, field documents and other coded documentation that are submitted by Electric and Gas Operations, Electric and Gas Engineering, New Business and the ECC, to digital form in the company GIS application, following all department drafting standards and conventions.
• Prepare, maintain and revise drawings, plans and maps, including Circuit Tie Maps and Gas Control Area Maps as required for the maintenance and operation of all electric and gas distribution and transmission facilities, and for similar or related purposes, from field surveys, switch orders, sketches, tax maps, development drawings, aerial photography and other documentation.
• Develop a basic understanding of the electric and gas infrastructure and their associated devices.
• File, sort and record development maps from the New Business Department as well as budget and design jobs from LTS, Engineering, Operations and CAG.
• Operate and maintain printers, scanners, plotters and similar types of equipment that are routinely used during the mapping process.
• Accurately interprets plans, maps and other drawings or coded documents and develop a full understanding of the purpose of such documents, and of the meaning of their codes and symbols.
• Become proficient coordinating all phases of an assigned job or project, assuring proper correlation of all details, correct application of symbols and standards and correct representation of details recorded on drawings, plans and maps.
• Make field investigations, measurements and sketches as required.
• Make simple calculations, including interpretations of survey data, trigonometric calculations, conversion of location data from one grid system to another.
• Tabulate and verify technical information and record data as assigned.
• Assist others with their work and check work of others as assigned.
• Operates all computer equipment necessary to digitally map in the GIS application.
• Develop a proficiency for examining and verifying all mapping jobs and projects done in the mapping department.
• Develop an understanding of the interface between the company customer information management system (e.g. CIMS) and the GIS application as it applies to mapping both electric and gas.
• Develop and understanding of the interface between the company work management system (e.g. WMS) and the GIS application as it applies to Authorization, Service and Work orders.
• Assist the company during emergency events as assigned by the Emergency Management Team.
• Learn how to scan maps into the GIS application and convert those maps from a raster image into a vectorized map.
• Assist with special projects and data integrity checks on both gas and electric maps as identified by the Mapping Supervisor or Senior Technician.
• Perform other related or less skilled duties as assigned.
• Keep an accurate daily log of work assigned and performed.
  
  

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience

• High School Diploma/GED Should have successfully completed courses in drafting, algebra and trigonometry on high school level.
  
  

Relevant Work Experience

• One-year experience with computerized drawing tool or equivalent. Required
• Must be neat, accurate and reliable. Required
• Should have a valid license to operate an automobile. Required
• Physical fitness necessary to carry out duties. Required
