POSITION TITLE: Manufacturing Process Engineer FUNCTION: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our manufacturing processes are optimized for efficiency, safety, and quality. The candidate will also be responsible for ensuring that our manufacturing processes comply with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role is dedicated to championing lean manufacturing practices and approach. Prioritizing process qualification and design, with a focus on ensuring safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness is key. Responsibilities encompass overseeing product safety inspections, audits, and product trials, as well as spearheading process validation, material testing, and providing comprehensive training on relevant processes and procedures. A pivotal aspect of the position involves active participation in Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to optimize processes and eliminate operational waste. Moreover, the role entails the strategic oversight and facilitation of quality standards application and maintenance of processes and its documentation through the Integrated Management System. This role is required to collaborate cross-functionally to develop procedures, work instructions, and establish programs aimed at enhancing efficiency, process/product quality, and all safety and compliance requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Develop and implement manufacturing processes that are optimized for efficiency, safety, and quality. * Ensure that all manufacturing processes comply with relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations. * Work with other departments to ensure that all manufacturing processes are integrated and optimized. * Develop and implement EH&S policies and procedures. * Conduct regular audits on process adherence for efficiency, safety, and quality. * Develop and implement training programs for employees on EH&S policies and procedures. * Design cellular manufacturing, create play books and standard operating procedures. * Help investigate, report, and resolve any accidents or incidents that occur in the workplace. * Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and other stakeholders. * Assist in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data. * Work with Operations team on process qualifications and trials. Perform measurements and data entry as needed. Work with production on accepting/rejecting trials based on quality expectations. * Work with QC Techs on first articles approvals, documentation, and sample retention (retains). * Work and assist in the troubleshooting of the SPC system. * Participate in and take on projects resulting in process streamlining, improvements and cost savings. * Assist and participate in the training of operations personnel in Lean methodologies (including JIT, 6S, pull system, Standard Work, Poke Yoke, Kaizen, and other tools as deemed appropriate and necessary). * Work with teams to identify problems, analyze information to develop and implement process solutions. * Establishes and maintains safety operations by adhering to procedures and policies. * Other tasks, projects, and assignments as needed. REQUIREMENTS: * Strong understanding of CPG manufacturing process and equipment. - what does this mean? * Experience in scale-up from laboratory to full scale production, ensuring reproducibility and stability. * Understanding of cosmetic ingredients and their interactions, including active ingredients, emulsifiers, stabilizers, and preservatives. * Strong understanding of formulation processes for cosmetics such as emulsions, suspensions, and dispersion systems. * Knowledge of manufacturing equipment (mixers, homogenizers, etc.) * Ability to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing issues (e.g. batch inconsistencies, equipment failures). * Strong analytical mindset to assess process deviations and recommend corrective actions. * Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with R&D, production, and quality teams. * Excellent documentation and reporting skills for process development and compliance records. * Strong communication skills to work with suppliers, contractors, and cross-functional teams. * Must be HANDS-ON with experience working on a production floor to oversee batch processing and equipment operations. * Ability to develop and optimize Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for consistent production. * Collaborative teamwork. * Process reliability and reproducibility. * Process qualifications. * Knowledge of Safety Risk Assessments Matrices. * Knowledgeable of FMEA. * Knowledge of Statistics, SPC and ISO9001. * Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office. * Detail and multitask oriented with good communication skills. * Must have ability to train and influence shop floor personnel. * Good communication skills with all team members. * HACCP certification or able to certify in the first 6 months in the position. * Work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. * Motivated and self-directed team player with ability to work with minimum supervision and good interpersonal skills. * Excellent facilitation and coaching skills. * Flexibility. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: * Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or a related field. * GMP's Quality auditing skills preferred. * Knowledge of ISO 9001, GMP or equivalent experience. * Knowledge of MS Office and ERP systems * Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. * Lean or 6 Sigma certification is a plus. CERTIFICATES: ASQ certifications preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: * Ability to communicate and present research reports to executive staff. * Excellent communication proficiency with oral and written skills * Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: * Strong math skills, including algebra and statistics. * Complex problem-solving skills. * Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is mostly sedentary and requires little repetitive hand movements, may require some standing, walking, bending and filing throughout the workday. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to work in front of a computer monitor for extended periods of the day. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Professional office environment. Our manufacturing plant is not environmentally controlled. Changes in humidity and temperature occur throughout the year. Although machine noise is constant, conditions are maintained within standards that meet OSHA mandated requirements, and which our Safety Committee monitors.
