Engineering Technicians within the Humanoid AI Robot team work side by side with Engineers to support and sustain the research and development of our prototype robots and sub-systems. You'll be building/repairing the first iterations of the machines that make the machines, including highly actuated and electronically/computationally dense robots.
You will have a blend of hands-on builds and responsibilities around analysis, testing, and documentation. Projects are open ended and often with limited up front guidance. The successful candidate for this position must have a broad background in Mechatronics, Industrial, and/or Automotive, Precision Medical Device, Maintenance, and Testing. Must be a self-starter and efficiently work independently as well as in team environments.
* Work with Engineers to fabricate, assemble, and integrate mobile robot prototypes, including mechanical assemblies, electrical systems, wire harnesses, etc.
* Develop test plans and test systems, including building of assembly jigs and test/validation systems and debug LV harnesses with multimeter and hand tools
* Collaborate with Engineering teams to root cause and resolve mechanical and electrical issues, provide detailed written & verbal test status updates to key stakeholders such as inspections and shift passdowns
* Maintain exceptional change control discipline in a rapidly evolving product and manufacturing environment
* Maintain a clean and organized manufacturing area, ensuring that it is well-stocked with the tools, components, and materials needed to sustain bot troubleshooting and repair
* Supporting bench-top electrical system builds and testing, including obtaining and tracking performance metrics
* Support low volume prototype part builds and testing, including development of SOP, training modules, documentation, and repair for serviceability
* 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Technician in fields of: Robotics, Automotive Service, precision medical devices, R&D, and Manufacturing with a demonstrated history of analytical problem solving and failure analysis
* Previous hands-on experience with hand and power tools, high & low voltage systems, wire harnesses assembly and repair, mechanical components, electro-mechanical devices, soldering irons, wire crimping tools, DMM multi-meters, and oscilloscopes
* Familiarity with working principles of sensors (i.e. camera, IMU, loadcells), Linux file systems and command line interfaces, and Git framework
* Experience with CAN and EtherCAT communication protocols a plus
* Able to interpret drawings and 3D CAD, and able to read mechanical & electrical drawing diagram-schematics; harness drawings and create a harness from scratch. Experience in CAD (ex. CATIA, SolidWorks) and/or electrical design (ex. Altium), fabrication /machining, 3D printing, and laser cutting equipment are preferred but not required
* Experience in manufacturing or factory line operations. Vehicle EOL Technician a plus with familiarity in Tesla firmware diagnostic tools (UDSGUI, CANape, Garage)
* Must be able to use spreadsheet tools (ex. Microsoft Office) and Project Management Software: JIRA, Python knowledge a plus
