Summary

The Manufacturing Engineering & Facilities Support Technician is responsible for supporting production through quality issue resolution, new product introduction, manufacturing process improvements, and equipment maintenance. This position will also handle basic facilities maintenance tasks and coordinate with outside contractors as needed. The role combines manufacturing engineering support (60%), facility maintenance (25%), and flexible response to production needs (15%).

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineering Support (60%)

  • Identifies changes to the design and/or manufacturing process for the improvement of product quality and process efficiencies
  • Develops knowledge and understanding of basic programming, setting up and operating production automated equipment to train production operators
  • Designs simple fixtures, tools and jigs
  • Works closely with Cross functional teams in development of processes
  • Creates and maintains assembly procedures
  • Facilitates process root cause analysis and implements countermeasures
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives through data collection and trend identification
  • Interfaces with vendors to solve problems and make recommendations for improvement

Facilities and Equipment Maintenance (25%)

  • Schedules and performs machine maintenance and maintains maintenance records per manufacturer's recommendations
  • Maintain PM database
  • Performs basic troubleshooting and repair of equipment; coordinates support from service providers as necessary
  • Develops and maintains plan for procurement and stocking of spare parts for critical equipment to minimize down time
  • Supports the development of specifications for sourcing new equipment and manages installation
  • Resolves facility issues including HVAC, plumbing, and other building systems
  • Maintains good relationships with contractors and service providers

Flexible Response (15%)

  • Provides technical expertise for process troubleshooting and equipment design
  • Facilitates identifying waste and incorporating lean manufacturing principles
  • Trains operators in accordance with released production assembly procedures
  • Supports production through documentation, procurement of equipment, spare parts and tooling
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience/Background:

  • 3 years experience in an electronics manufacturing environment and equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Experience with PCB assembly, soldering, epoxy/adhesives
  • Experience in setup and programming of automated equipment
  • Experience in the application of lean manufacturing principles
  • CAD experience preferred
  • Visual basic and/or SQL knowledge
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills
  • Ability to identify and resolve technical and operational problems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic to intermediate proficiency with CAD and 3D models
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interfacing with other departments, all levels of organization, suppliers and contractors
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize duties with minimal supervision

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associates degree from a Technical Trade School preferred
  • Solder Application Specialist certification preferred

Environmental & Physical Requirements

Office / Sedentary Requirements:

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.

Manufacturing / Non-Sedentary Requirements

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work may be performed in an office or warehouse environment. Typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each work day doing the following activities: stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, stoop, or climb. May have possible exposure to dust and may require the ability to lift and/or push up to 50 pounds 33% - 66% of the time.
