Summary

Job Summary :

Manufacturing Engineer (Orbital Project ) will be a precision-oriented professional with highly developed leadership qualities and the ability to work efficiently and within budget. The successful candidate’s primary function and role will deal with the production of orbital weldment components for the Semi-conductor industry. He or she will serve as production department in ensuring high-quality welds are produced efficiently and safely in a controlled cleanroom environment. Manufacturing Engineer should be someone who enjoys contributing to an innovative, forward-thinking team and who can always keep the end user in mind.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements
  • Works closely with Line leader.
  • Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process
  • Continuously improve welding processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and repeatability.
  • Stay up-to-date on advancements in orbital welding technology and materials.
  • Devise new solutions to existing manufacturing problems
  • Create processes and procedures to help the company meet budgetary goals as well as performance quotas
  • Develop and implement orbital welding procedures according to industry standards (e.g., ASME AWC) and company specifications.
  • Consolidated report on outstanding/completed jobs to meet monthly quota
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and cross-departmental meetings to ensure collaborating and cohesion
  • NCR part list, reason of rework
  • Problem-Solving and Quality Control:
  • Troubleshoot product issues and identify root causes of defects.
  • Develop solutions to maintain consistency in quality.
  • Interpret inspection data and ensure actual component meets all quality requirements.
  • Technical Support:
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the Orbital welding supervisor and other team members.
  • Train welders on new procedures and equipment.
  • Establish an effective and efficient work sequence
  • To improve productivity and reduce carbon footprint

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): To maintain the cleanliness of the critical environment in cleanroom
  • Evaluate production issues, product failures and fall-outs
  • Rework set/month
  • Individual components NCR to send back main site
  • Prepare maintenance schedule for equipment
  • Schedule monthly/annually maintenance
  • Regular maintenance of equipment
  • Training and assessment of new operators.
  • Document and track operators training.
  • 5S housekeeping: Sort, Set in Order, Shine and Cleanliness, Standardization, Discipline/Sustain.
  • Utilization of Facility Equipment
  • Manual monitoring of testing source of Gas (Helium/Compressed Air/Nitrogen) and replace when necessary (not to incur holding cost)
  • Manual monitoring of cleanroom source of Humidity to fulfil cleanroom requirement

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Create PR (Purchase Requisition): By gathering information, ensuring accuracy of information based on user requirements and following internal procedures.
  • Maintenance of Cleanroom accessories including cleanroom apparels such as Jumpsuits, booties, hairnet, mask…etc.
  • Replenishment of cleanroom consumables.
  • Workstation: Scanning of work orders

Additional Responsibilities in Precision Engineering:

  • Understanding: Specific terminology and materials used in precision engineering may be beneficial.
  • Awareness: Maintaining awareness of semiconductor industry standards and quality certifications relevant to the company's procurement needs.
  • Assistance: Any ad hoc duties as assigned by Program Manager


Additional Duties :

Design : Analyse manufacturing processes and design improvements to manufacturing stations.

Tooling : Guide development and building of fixtures and tooling to address bottlenecks.

NPI Work Instructions : Introduce New Products as Manufacturing Engineer responsible.

Develop and update Work Instructions for Manufacturing.

Roll out ATS and other supplier test tools.

Calculate fixture and manufacturing tooling costs; estimate future requirements.


Supply Chain Planning : Support design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.

Document and track Technician training and qualification.

Objective <5% rework. Monitor and drive towards this goal.


Training, Qualification, Throughput, Efficicency, Failure Analysis, Rework, RMA :

Monitor trends, help drive improvement at TQC.

Drive Rework dwell time to less than one month.

Lead MRB Manufacturing team to meet current metrics.

Station Status, Issues, To Do's; updated in MFG Status Email

Re-Start MFG Status email with a fresh start for the new week

Support and contribute to Weekly Quality Review; Bi-Weekly with Customer

Rework snap shot, balance, trend, parts required


Reports : Report on Cross Training and Qualification; Personnel Development

Report and Plan for TQC Efficiency Improvements


Quarterly report for Volume, Efficiency, Throughput, improvements made

Document personnel training and qualification status, recommendations


Supervisory Responsibilities :

Training Orbital Welding Supervisor/Orbital Welders on technical guidelines and administrative work. Evaluate performance of Line Leads, Training Lead. Recommend to Program Manager for improvements or guidance.


Education And/Or Experience :

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Experience:
  • 4+ years’ design and quality control experience in pipeline manufacturing/orbital welding
  • Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills
  • History of progressive responsibility a plus
  • Experience with CAD programs a plus.
  • Proficient with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office programs


Language, Mathematical, And/or Reasoning Ability :

English (fluent) written and spoken, Mandarin or Malay


Physical Demands :

Lift 13kg, no allergies to latex, no asthma. Must be able to detect colors.


Work Environment :

Must be able to perform repetitive tasks for an entire shift. Must be able to sit, stand, or crouch down for extended periods. Use of hairnets, latex gloves, shoe coverings, and clean room suit is required regularly. Must be comfortable working with magnifying glasses, microscopes, and tweezers. No sensitivity to latex, epoxies, glues, or solvents.
